I have converted one dipper but never a smoker and I've been trying for 10 years; as I stated before that's when I hand carried my first rolls of General back to the states... Maybe it's my approach but I see Airmen smoking at the base and I'll pull out a can of portions and offer but never had a taker.

Shelf space:
They gotta be dry (non-refrigerated);
accessibility right next to Camel & Marlboro at the gas station.
Availability:
I don't know of many cigarette smokers who would go into a
cigar or pipe shop when they're not interested in either form
of tobacco. We would/we do 'cause we're dedicated snussers.
Not turning off the American tobacco consumer:
The main selling point of Whenever .. Wherever is crucial to getting their
early attention. The preaching of harm reduction is secondary in the early
stages (no pushy pushy). When they're ready they'll make the connection!

There are different ways to go about getting into the market in the US and I just think it's a matter of time unless the government just completely shuts it down. The only thing I am worried about is the possible price skyrocketing.

I'm talking about early-market positioning. Camel and Marlboro, when I've seen them, are right up front with the cigarettes. Putting all your snus under refrigeration, away from the visible, attention-getting snus, is doing no one any favors. Consumers are accustomed to going to the coolers for 'a cold one' but not for anything they're expected to carry around in their pockets.
Baby steps -- that's what I'm saying. Once they're out of the crawling stage, then they'll take the next step and maybe even check out the 'better snus' which just happens to be refrigerated.
"it's a matter of time unless the government just completely shuts it down" -- time is of the essence so get the product out there, before the 'do-gooders' get in the way even more!! This is not the time to be elitist, unless you really want to be in the minority with your chosen nicotine addiction.
As far as "push more people into it from their family and friends who have been trying to get them to stop smoking for years" --- I haven't met any smokers who don't turn a deaf ear to constant nagging and preaching, no matter how benevolent it might be. That's why they've been trying to get them to stop smoking for years --- no one is listening 'cause everyone likes to think they have a mind of their own.
I'm not advocating that the harm reduction theme be cast aside .. just don't make it the central point of discussion --- sounds too much like big brother/big sister nagging and preaching.
Ex-smokers: Sound/look familiar??
You betcha..
