Only thing changed appears to the be differently embossed top. Bottom is the same. Only new can I found locally is the Frost. Bigger portions which are slightly less dry and a bit more lip tolerant. Quite a bit less icky sweetness that moderates after about ten minutes but of course no tobacco taste whatever. Maybe a little more nic but still at best it's only a mini in that regard. Its sole advantage is that it's just a convenience store away. I'd call it a noticeable improvement but not a home run by any means.
Update: I had scarcely hit the send button for the above and I was suddenly overcome with nausea. Came within a whisker of upchucking. Maybe just a coincidence but really how likely is that?
Update to the update: Tried again. No problems this time. Must have been a fluke or a consequence of not having eaten in 7 hours. S'ok I guess. Very mild nic hit although it's at least perceptible now. Flavor is not nearly as objectionable as before and lasts a bit longer. It'll work as a backup I suppose. If the target was the General Mini Mint then they got close at least. If it was any average Swedish OP or WP then Camel still falls well short in the nic department.
I have a new Camel Frost portion in right now... It's definately less sweet, and the nicotine seems a tad bit more.. but it's still not as moist as any Swedish.
I won't be buying Camel again, unless it's the Robust and Winterchill flavors to try out.
I bought a tin of the new robust today. The portions are bigger and they remind me a little of General WP. The smell and texture are a big improvement over Camel Frost. For the first 5 minutes I was actually enjoying it and thought that maybe Camel was really trying. Then the sweetness started to take over and did not let up until I spit the portion out. It was a taste that vaguely reminded me of Marlboro Rich. Very syrupy. If they could tone down the sweet taste and add a little salt they might have a decent product but this stuff as is sucks. Camel is on the right track but not quite there yet.
The tin itself is quite nice and makes a very satisfying clang as it hits the trash can loaded with 14 portions in it.
Tom from American Smokeless Tobacco in Virginia sent me a nice little sample pack of Discreet snus. Here is a breakdown of what I got and my thoughts...
