I've had it come in a plastic ups bag totally ripped up and enclosed in this clear plastic bag saying sorry but customs looked in it. This was not the same, but someone definately opened the orriginal then reshipped it in a larger package. I doubt someone would look in my stuff, not take anything, then pay for a brand new larger envelope just for kicks.
Whoops! Just noticed you say UPS.

I'm talking about USPS; can only assume UPS has similar procedures.

Yes it was from people in other states mailing a small (like 5-10 cans) to me. Not sure if this is some freak reoccuring accident but it looked to me as though someone ripped it open and looked in it, than neatly taped it up, repackaged it and sent it on it's way. And usually mail takes <4 days to get to me from anywehre in the US as long as it's envelope sized, but these took over 7 days so I was wondering what the delay was.

Maybe this is nothing and just some freak accident but it is enough to make me warry of becoming a distribution hub for contraband tobacco (lol at the fact that there is even is such as thing as contraband tobacco)

My bad, it was USPS not UPS. They left the package at my door and didn't request a signature though and it came in the mail yesterday.

Ok I'm still a bit confused. Mass has a tax, I see that but what do you mean by banned? Do you mean, banned to be shipped to completely all the time? This the reason why I can ship to Mass?

Could it have been a recycled envelope? I reuse most of the envelopes/boxes I get, and will pretty up the best I can, but it'll be stitched shut with thread, or sealed with duct tape. It really does sound like it was opened by the carriers though. I see a new market opening for a slow shipping service. "We aren't quick, but privacy is absolutely guaranteed".

Iowa, South Dakoda and Mass. I was doing a dummy order on Northerner and noticed that Iowa was not on the list of states to put in your address so I sent Fredrik a PM and he confirmed that those states have a law against smokeless tobacco over the internet.

You'll have to poke around for the information, but I know of at least 2 states that don't allow tobacco shipments at all. This is pre PACT stuff, but now that PACT's past, there's an enforcement mechanism in place.

First of all, the post office has clear shipping tape at its disposal for fixing problems, not duct tape.

Automation is much known to chew up/rip packages (& letters) but this is not publicly acknowledged because automation is the wave of the future; and USPS automation does most of the mail handling these days.

In any case, we can only hope these incidents are not widespread.

The first envelope had the same return address and my address as the larger one did. So unless someone wasted two envelopes for no reason, i don't think it was recycled. It was cleanly cut, obviousely with a knife, so I don't think it was damaged. None of my stuff was touched inside but it was FDA approved snus.

However, the other day someone sent me some Skruf ES which is banned but no one stole it from me while it was being shipped. I don't know if maybe my packages are just some freak accident or if they are just spot checking stuff. Not sure how the logistics of that would work since there was no paperwork or anything pointing to it being tobacco.

Well it was a non-translucent tape that looked like some sort of duct tape to me. Perhaps it was from their machines or something, but it just seemed like such a clean cut, as though a knife or opener of some type had been used.

Forget about any of this unless someone else reports similar things. This may just be wierdness with my package that is due to some other factor.

Well woohoo for the nanny country this is turning into! How wonderful I have the government protecting me from problems which don't even exist! I'm sure kids are lining up by the thousands to order euro snus even though most don't know what the hell it is beyond the camel/marlboro garbage.
