    Potential Snuser Here!

Hello! I've been reading up on snus for quite a bit, and I'm very much interested in trying it out--I'm sure it'd help me quit smoking, and my lungs need a break. The thing is, I'm female and don't want my use of smokeless tobacco to be very noticeable. I want to use the portion snus, but I'm not sure whether to try the minis or not. I've heard that regular portions aren't that obvious, but I'm noooot so sure. Let me know what you think, because I'm dying to order some!

The best thing to do is to try a few tins - vary your selection a bit and see what jives with you. Snus is a beast of many choices and it seems that personal taste is king (or queen, as the case may be) - everyone has brands they love and brands they hate. I'd say at least try the minis, but try at least a regular portion as well - see what you think. I'd suggest a startout order of something like

Vertigo - Cuba Gold (these are minis)
    Göteborgs Rapé (mini portion)
Mocca - one of Anis/Mint/Pomegranate/Mandarin (minis)

and something like General, Skruf Portion, or Gotlands Gulsnus in regular just to see if you fancy it at all.

Welcome to the forum, by the way, and good luck kicking the smokes!

Whee, thanks for the quick reply! Now to find the best deals, as I am but a poor college student. So far, BuySnus and Northerner seem like the best sites to order from...

I've also heard of Oliver-Twists, and apparently they're sold in the US. If they're similar to snus at all, I'm definitely heading to my nearest tobacconist to check 'em out!

I haven't tried the Oliver Twists, but a few others here have - perhaps they'll chime in. I do know that they are quite distinct from snus - compressed bits rather than portioned or loose ground tobacco.

Here's word around the campfire :

As for best deals, most here order from BuySnus or Northerner - the price is pretty uniform no matter where you buy from, really. All of the shops buy direct from the manufacturers and compete directly with each other, so there's not a lot of room for gouging. Buysnus and Northerner both give out random gifts and things too, which is nice. I've gotten a few prismasters, some free Firebreak gum, an Ettan fisherman's hat and a Grov snus-carrying pouch between the two shops - score!

          Oliver Twist and snus suggestions

Just to add to what Zero said

Personally I would recommend the CatchDry Eucalyptus minis.

            Zero:

An Ettan fisherman's hat? That's awesome. Have you got a picture of it you could post? The idea of an Ettan hat intrigues the hell out of me.

Here are my picks for a 10 can order for a new female snuser..

              LD Black minis

              Catch Eucalyptus mini

Vertigo both types(I haven't personally tried these yet, but they're designed by women for women, so they should work)

              Mocca mint

Göteborgs Rape #2 these are full sized portions

Lucky Strike White minis My buddy who went to Norway said these were popular with the women. I personally prefer the regular full sized portions.

General regular portions This is the Swedish standard

General Onyx This is a tentative recommendation. These are stronger than regular snus, and full sized, with a black pouch. Not the most discreet, but might be nice for some quiet time in the house.

              Gotlandssnus Green portion

I think this order would give a good representation of the different snus' available, and would generally be pleasing to the female palate.

Ah, yes, well - it's very stylish and, I feel, will be an integral part of next Fall's collection 8)

I don't really think that the regular sized portions are obvious at all. Even maxi portions. I always fold my portions hot dog style before I put them in. Even with a folded over Granit Maxi in my lip, the difference really isn't very noticeable at all.

However, if you don't even want to take the risk of having your snus noticed, the minis are probably your safest bet. You could probably have a whole tin of mini portions in and nobody would be the wiser.

I'm with Soft M. C. on the regular portion issue - fold 'em and stow 'em, and you are fine, they stay in place and don't bulge your face much at all.

I want one of those Ettan hats very much... I wonder where you can get one.

Maybe ask northerner? I think that's where it came from - it comes to mind that Swedish Match may have been making them at some point and giving them away with rolls, but that was some time ago. I do remember that there was a General hat as well and I think also a Grov one.

That first reply was pretty much on target. I'd definitely start with dry mini portions. Too bad XQ's went under with its tobacco offerings. They were very discrete and tasty. Try the Mocca and CatchDry pouches. I'm also fond of the Offroad Vanilla/Coffee in the regular size (lots of flavored choices from them). Did NOT like any of the Lucky Strike offerings. Did like the new Skoal Bandit Dry Cinnamon on sale some places in the U.S. As for Oliver Twist .. I use them daily in addition to snus and nasal snuff and e-cigarettes. No one thing satisifies completely. Oliver Twist is VERY powerful, however, and not very tasty (it hits like Nick and Johnny, which I actually like). I would start with Royal or Tropical Oliver Twist flavors. The regular and senior choices are way too strong for someone just starting. Wintergreen will nauseate you. Good luck quitting cigarettes. It's the smart thing to do and there are many choices to help you stay off them. I couldn't survive without daily Stonewall pieces, so try those as well.

BTW, the picture has me convinced to get me one of them hats!
