    Gotlandssnus fans: Stock Up Now!

The other day I was contemplating my next snus order and decided to shoot off an email to Gotlandssnus since it has been stated that some of their products will be available after the FDA's new rules went into effect. This is what I asked.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ----------------------------
I am concerned about which of your products will be available in the United
States after the FDA's new rules regarding ingredient disclosure and product
registration take effect on June 22nd of this year. I use the Gotlandsnus
Original Loose almost exclusively and would like to know if it will be
readily available for purchase here or if I need to plan a move to Sweden.
    Thank You.

    I quickly received in response:

    Hello Michael

We at Gotlandssnus are looking at a solution for this,
But you may have a gap, when you can't order your favorite snus.

    Best regards
    Daniel Sundgren
    Market Manager

    Gotlandssnus AB

I am glad Gotlands was honest in the reply, even if they did not divulge their plans and also were speedy on the reply. I am sure they have enough going on as it is. So it seems that I am only ordering Gul until I can not fit anymore in my freezer to avoid any long term gaps without.

I'm also boning up on Swedish in the event I have to visit once every six months to get my snus.

Northerner has said that Gotland will be complying with the FDA. I have a large enough stash, that it should last until next year at the soonest, and that should be enough time to get the kinks worked out. It's in Gotland's best interests to pursue the American market, and I think they fully intend to (wintergreen). Gotland is a very small company, and they stand to do well in America since it's virtually an untapped market.

I agree but am not planning on weathering any gap of availability without my most favorite snus as I am guessing the initial push from them will be the Jak's line.

Just want to announce that Northerner.com will follow the Pact Act and the FDA new requirements. It will be implemented on the 29th of June.

It means we will continue shipping out US orders from our warehouse in Orefield, Pennsylvania.

We will have to add the local state tobacco tax, add online age verification to the check out and ship with UPS only. The positive thing is that our customers will get their orders quicker with UPS and since we are based in the USA - the UPS shipping costs will not be that high - compared to shipping from Sweden.

The numbers of brands we will be able to offer will decrese due to the new FDA requirements. We will continue to offer all brands from Swedish Match, Skruf, V2 and some from Gotlandssnus and TillCe. We will not be able to offer any brands from the other suppliers - JTI, BAT, Gellivare and Gajane.

Many of our customers will probably buy from online Swedish retailers that will not follow the Pact Act but we are pretty sure the US custom eventually (3-6 months) will intervene with their sales so that they will have to follow the Pact Act or not sell at all to the US.

What are your thoughts about it? Do you think the US custom will just let snus orders from Sweden passing through - without proper tax and age verified?

      Wish you a Happy Easter!

      Sincerely,
      Frank
Form the Northerner/Pact thread. I quoted the whole post.

Wintergreen has the big new warning on it. I'll relax when that same warning shows up on the Gul.

I'll be severely peeved if Gotland Gul doesn't make it to the USA. That's my favorite snus, bar none :^/

You know I've never tried the gul. I must say the gotlands I have had, not that great for me so I always forget to try the gul los when I put together an order. Damnit. Does it have a grind similar to the jules los? I really didn't care for the jules at all, grind flavor or moisture.

Assuming you tried the lös from this last season, then yes, it's pretty close. They used to have a coarser grind which I preferred, but made it finer to ease handbaking. The flavor of the lös is different than the portions. The portions seem to favor the evergreen notes, and have more bitterness, while the lös favors the citrus. I like them both very much, for different reasons.

You can say that again. I'd plan to go to Sweden once a year to pick up a year's supply. Christmas wouldl be canceled. Sorry kids, daddy needs his snus...

What's wrong with Christmas in Sweden? There's damned few places I'd rather be than Sweden at xmas time. The only other reasonable contenders would be the Germanic countries :^)

Nothing wrong with it for me. I think my kids might not appreciate trading off gifts and family visits for us to go to Sweden for a week. When they're older, sure but it is hard to reason with a three year old.

Question, what exactly are these new FDA requirements that will not allow certain Gottlandsnus brands?

Labeling and ingredient disclosure. It's a paperwork exercise, not a technical issue.

                            ~~
Wonder where the hold up would be? It can't be that hard to supply an ingredient list, even when requesting one from companies they get their flavoring from or what have you. Or maybe those companies are the hold up?
