In light of the fact that this year has witnessed a huge tobacco excise tax increase, the passage of The Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act of 2009, which brings all tobacco products under the potentially disastrous control of the FDA, SCHIP tax increases, the imminent passage of the PACT Act, and the fact that most tobacco users live in states with tobacco tax policies that are far less lenient than those of North Carolina, I'd hardly say tobacco users on this and other tobacco forums are "whining."Originally posted by clubsnusThank you so much for clarify that in a real world example. Its not going to be that big of a deal.Originally posted by sagedilNorth Carolina recently raised their tobacco prices. So I am looking at paying an additional 12.8% per tin. So what, an additional $0.35 per tin??? I am SO not gonna stress this. My state needs the money. Adding an additional 12.8% tax to my tobacco purchases will NOT hurt me. Damn, remember what I spent when I smoked??
Again, why all the whining about this just bugs the crap out of me. It is not the end. The world doesn't stop if this passes. It just gets a tad more expensive. Big whup.
So Pris, I am looking at about $43 per roll of General. No more than $4 more than I am paying today.
Stop the whining!
I'm 51, and this is the worst year I've ever seen in terms of tobacco users rights. All of this "it won't hurt ME that much, so screw everybody else who it WILL hurt" is what emboldened our oppressors to do what they do. So take that patronizing "stop whining" BS, no matter what your post count or what business you run, and talk it somewhere else.

Hear hear. Nobody is going to stand up for tobacco users of any form without having some ulterior motive, likely related to their income. It's not politically correct; as far as the public is concerned, tobacco is a blight on our society and its users need to be punished for some vague reasons fed to them by their representatives and whatever the media tells them. The worst thing we can do politically is divide.
That said, I can see two options we as a group can take before we get any further down this slippery slope.
Clearly, the powers that be have no qualms about differentiating between tobacco delivery methods (cigarettes, dip, cigars, etc.) and screwing their users over separately. If we could somehow lobby to get snus differentiated into a category less regulated, there's at least some consolation.
Alternatively, and I find this the more viable idea with tobacco universally seen as evil in the US, we form a grassroots organization open to users of any tobacco product and take political action against the taxes and legislation already on the board and hopefully provide resistance against any further regulation.
If such a thing already exists, somebody please sign me up for the newsletter.

Your behind the times. WI tax is now 100% of manufactures established price for snuff, which is certainly among the highest in the country if not the highest. One of the reasons I'm going back to RYO portions using loose snus. 45 grams verses 24 with only a slight increase in Fed tax. Will cut my price nearly in half.Originally posted by Tristik~~
Oof! " Wisconsin 50% Manuafactures Price "
No wonder everyone goes over the border to Illinois and buys a few cartons at a time.

Looks like the highest of those states that charge a % of wholesale/manufacturers' costs. Probably not as bad as the few states that charge exorbitant taxes per ounce though. Just curious, what are you using for you portion material for your RYO portions??Originally posted by stubby2
