Never mind looking up the Canada Tobacco Act - I found it at

    http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/showtdm/cs/T-11.5

Just a cursory reading does not reveal any mention of a ban on importing snus to Canada. I don't know where the Swedish Match people got their information from.

I received an email reply from Ottawa Tobacco Emporium and they tell me they will be selling snus in January. They did not directly answer my question about brands, but just said that if the product takes off they will consider "other brands." SOunds like we are just getting DuMaurier, but I could be wrong.

The reply from Swedish Match makes no sense. We all get orders sometimes taken by Customs and they just fine us, not seize the products. Plus, other smokeless is allowed in as imports - the Oliver Twist buds as just one example, from Denmark.

That is good new cuz we'd be getting Skruf. They dont want to export to Canada cuz of all the regulations french/english writing & health warnings

It may be that they see all the regulations about tobacco, the bilingual packaging needs, and no clear market here. However, i am still glad I will be able to stroll into the market and get some fresh snus at a shop. BTW, they told me that the market emporium is one of three places in Ottawa that will stock snus in January. Wonder what the other two are?
