    Question - Phantom Lös

I'm on my 2nd prilla of Phantom Lös

1st one was Phantom Classic Brown Lös and now Phantom Classic Blue Lös. I'm trying to figure out what I'm tasting. There is absolutely no bitterness in either one. There's an underlying taste. It kind of reminds me of soap. What I think :?: I'm tasting, is the glycerol and propylene glycol that bleeds through because the tobacco is bland.

Using a bland tobacco can have its advantages when it comes to making flavored products but its disadvantage is some of the undesirable tastes bleed through in your unflavored or lightly flavored products.

Is this my imagination? Does anyone else get that underlying soapy taste from Phantom?

There's definitely a taste there, but I don't know what causes it. Orlik, another Danish maker has a similar characteristic in their snus, but it's not as noticeable as it is in V2.

I've got a can of Phantom brown los in the freezer. I haven't heard anything about it, but for $1.90 I figure it's worth the risk. Maybe I'll crack it open this weekend, after I finish this can of Gustavus.

        JT,

Don’t worry about it. Almost every new comer on the forum complains about the glycerol and propylene glycol in snus. But like I always say give it a few weeks and you won’t even notice it’s there……hold on……wait a second…..that’s salt.

Anyway, I get a very similar basic taste from Odens classic.

Don't get me wrong, I really like both Blue and Brown (just ordered a roll of each) and I don't really get anything soapy from either. However to me the base tobacco in Phantom (especially Brown) and Odens classic is very close if not the same. Thus my guess is that if JT is picking something up in the Phantom, he will also find it in the Odens.

Same here. Justintempler, it seems that taste of pure awesomeness isn't your thing.

I've got a can of yet untried Odens Classic to tryout also.

I don't have a problem with glycerol and propylene glycol per se, I love my LD and Montecristo and I've had General, GES, Gotlands, Prima Fint, Grov, Skruf, Knox and Granit and in those it didn't bother me.

The taste is such so more noticable in Phantom and becomes a distraction.

                  JT,

One question came to mind. Are your findings based on one batch (can or roll) or is this something that you have found is common to your experience with the Phantoms over a period of time and orders?

If the former, it might be a bad batch.

I've had some kind of taste in every V2 lös I've had. I can't say what causes it, but it's in every single one.

                      Snusdog,

I'm not the only one that notices it. That's why I asked.

Some of us just might be more sensitive to certain tastes than others. What we drink during the day may also influence our taste buds. Someone that drinks Mountain Dew all day might have a completely different perception than someone that drinks coffee all day.

I got 3 different Phantoms and an Odens to try out. These are just my first impressions so far. My perceptions of Phantom Brown may improve as I work through the can.

I'm with JT here. I taste that waxy off-overtone in every single V2-manufactured product I've tried. I still like some of them, such as Oden's Kanel, but they would be better without that hint of almost-soap. It seems to be worse with the portions, but it's there in the lös, too. I just had a pris of Phanbrix classic to make extra-sure. It's there.

It's never bothered me--not even three months ago, when I was two days in--with anything SM, nor Skruf, nor Gotlandssnus.

I want so much to really enjoy V2 products, but no dice. Not until they reformulate or something.

My löss is others' gain, however. I'm probably going to have some Thunder, Oden's, and Phanbrix up for trade in the near future.

                          I didn't think that V2 made Odens?

                            It's made under contract.
