New here and new to snus

Hi all, I'm Bill. I've been sober for 2 years. Oh wait, wrong place.

Last week was my first chance encounter with snus. A co worker offered me a portion of his Camel frost. I never heard of this product before but I fell in love. I've been an on and off, well mostly on, smoker of menthol cigarettes since 1970. I've been getting tired of smoking again and was planning on giving it up after the New Year. I haven't had a smoke since last Friday because of the snus. Now I pretty much don't have to deal with nicotine withdrawals for a long time to come.

From everything I've read the Camel snus is pretty much junk compared to the Swedish versions. Unfortunately there is no place locally to buy anything but Camel. I've done quite a bit of reading on the subject on the internet. This internet thingy is good for more than porn after all. I ordered a sampler pack from General and five cans of various brands and flavors from Sweden. I'm really looking forward to getting my shipments and getting over the desire to bite down on the bag. Made that mistake once. I hope it doesn't happen again. I'm thinking I probably need a stronger snus than what I have right now.

    Anyway, hello to all.

Camel snus is actually very weak in comparison to Swedish stuff. A regular 8mg portion of Swedish hits probably twice as hard as the American Camel. The good news is, if that's still not strong enough, there's a boatload of strong and extra strong snus for you to look into. Good luck getting started!

          Welcome to SnusOn Bill :^)

Swedish snus may be a bit of a shock coming from Camel, but stick with it. Swedish made snus is more satisfying in the long term, and is more artfully executed than Camel SNUS.

            Hi Bill,

If you are truly in Pennsylvannia, then snus may not be at the corner gas station but there are 2 snus warehouses in your state. so snus is more often than not is only one day away by UPS or USPS.

            http://getsnus.com/
            http://northerner.com/en/snus/Northe...pped_Snus-387/

And if snus by mail becomes outlawed you couldn't ask to be in a better state. Pennsylvannia is the only state in the USA that doesn't have a tax on smokeless tobacco.

That's good to know. I have family there. Not enough reason to relocate in and of itself, of course, but it's one more fact to throw onto the pile.

                    Welcome!
Like many here, I tried the Camel stuff first as well. I thought it was deacent at first until curiosity got the better of me then I tried the real deal.
Besides being weak, and sugary, the American stuff is actually really rough on the gums. I tried one last weekend for shits and giggles, and it just felt like sandpaper in my mouth. I promptly spit it right back out.

I haven't been snusing for very long comparatively, but it doesn't take long at all to get used to and knowledgeable.
Hope you enjoy a much better habit!

I blame the New York tobacco taxes. Almost $8 a pack is insane. Besides, Snus tastes better and I can use it anywhere.

Thanks for the welcomes. Where in PA are those warehouses? I'm in northeast PA. It might be worth a road trip if they are in the Philadelphia area.

With our new state budget the government just raised the tax again on cigarettes and added cigarillos to the tax. So far cigars and smokeless tobacco are still untaxed. I think there are going to be quite a few smokers making the switch to smokeless. The government is always trying to balance their budgets on the backs of the smokers.

I'm glad to hear the Swedish brands are stronger. My mornings are 2-3 cups of coffee and 4-5 smokes before the wife will even say hello to me. I probably need one really strong brand for early morning and taper down during the day.

Looking forward to getting started and picking up some tips from the experienced folks here.

Congrats on deciding to kick the butts. Snus will definitely help. The really strong snus helped me a lot at first, now I'm tapering down some.

Oden's, Thunder, General Ekstra Sterk, Claq Qui and Skruf Stark might be some good things to try initially. Also Nick & Johnny, Onyx, Grov Black and General Sterk. Well, I could go on and on...

edit: Don't mean use those only initially. Mean those are good strong ones, use them the rest of your life if you like them ;-)

                            BillW, welcome to Snuson

Unfortunately, Getsnus only sells through the mail. On the other hand, since they so close, you would probably get it the next day.

Normal advice. Snus will taste salty at first. Normal. Takes about 7 -10 days to acclimate. Your tastes will change much.

Or just go read someone else's intro for the full newbie post I do.

Cutting corners already. That might be "hip" for wal-mart greeters but this is snuson damn it. I expect better from you.
