I guess I simply don't understand why anyone using snus doesn't smoke when that is what they want to do. It s not like that one cigarette will make you suddenly go back to smoking. The whole point of snus is you already have nicotine in your body, there is nothing that cigarettes can do to make you smoke them if you don't want to smoke them.

But as I have posted numerous times, I love snus cause it means I can smoke when I WANT to, not anymore cause I NEED to.

Huge difference, and I live my life happy embarking on things I love to do when I feel like it, and never feeling like something is being denied me.
I often wonder what would happen if I had one once in a while. It certainly isn't too harmful, but I still wonder. I'm pretty athletic these days, I used the money I would have spent on cigarettes to join a gym and it's taken me a lot of work to get where I'm at. I sometimes wonder if the occasional cigarette would set me back a bit, especially since I'm now really enjoying my lungs and doing some long distance running to boot. It really hurts to want a cigarette so badly, but fear it like blasphemy...I'm not sure what to do, but you are soooo right, sage, that one should go through life without restrictions. When I read dieters blogs and see them write "I had an ice cream sandwich last night and I felt sooooo naughty " I just have to laugh!

You're right about the nicotine being covered, but I did try something like this a year ago. In a trance, I bought a pack of cigarettes with the intention that I'd keep them in the glove-box for special occasions. So I opened it up, rolled down the windows and had a smoke. It tasted damn good, so I had another, and then another. By that time I realized I simply COULD NOT do this, and launched the pack out the window. Now that I've been quit for over a year, I might have more control. We shall see...

It doesn't make a difference. I'm right there with ya snusophile. Starting snus and quitting smoking was integral to my coinciding effort to get in shape. I run all the time now, and go to the gym and/or run outdoors 3-5 days a week, sometimes 6. I've lost almost 20 pounds, and I love the way my lungs feel. I would have lost a lot more if I could give up all the beer, but alas, I drink loads of beer. But, I smoke the occasional cig -- my fiance still smokes, and sometimes before bed, or when she picks me up from work in the car, and I really want a quick fix, I take it. No ill effects at the gym or when pattin' my feet on the concrete, I assure you. Not to convince anyone to keep smoking, just letting you know the occasional cig works for me with the addition of exercise into my life for the past 7 months.

EDIT: If you're paying attention to the date I joined here, I took a break from both snusing and exercising during a knee injury. Not proud of it. Back on track as of January.

Snusophile, some very smart and sage advice for you.

Bum the cigarette, don't buy them!!

I totally understand,. To this day, if I buy a pack of cigarettes, I will smoke the whole pack within a day or two, then keep finding the butts and smoking them until everything really is gone. So I do understand.

So I bum them now. And I am fearless about asking folks. I smoked for 30 odd years, I have probably given away thousands of cigarettes in my day so I damn well have no problem bumming them now until I turn 90!!

An aside, I twice had some women stay with me briefly last year, both smoked. When they were here, I immediately jumped up to at least 8 cigarettes a day. Just if they are around, or someone is smoking around me, I will join them. But important part, the day they both left, I simply stopped without even thinking about it. Really isn't something I will do if it isn't right in front of me. As soon as it isn't, I really don't have any desire, even if i just spent the three previous weeks smoking.

So don't buy them, but don't deny yourself in those special moments.

And as for the working out, I was doing the same until I hurt my wrist and then my back. The cigarette every month or two had zero effect on me. I had smoked two packs a day for 30 years, my body wass just grateful for the rest I now give it, one cigarette it just don't care about

You can always count on sage for some wise advice. Thanks a lot man, really!

After all this, I'm still not about to go out and ask my neighbor for a cigarette, but if the time comes when I'm in the right place at the right time, what the hell? I might just give it a go. Life is too short to worry about things like this. Cheers, guys! :P

If you see your neighbor smoking, just go right up and ask him for one if that is what you want. Why not?? I'm sure there are tons of neighborly things you can do in return.

I guess it's one of the joys of being in my 40's now. I am just not shy anymore to ask for what I want

But I do encourage you to embrace the full freedom that snus brings. Being able to smoke when I want now really is one of my favorite things about snus.

And just too funny we have turned a thread about what about what makes snus better than cigarettes into a full bodied defense of smoking.

Yes, I am a bad, bad man.

There is a reason why I have my name. A thing I have been famous for on the net going on 12 years now

Oh jeez, I forgot what this thread was really about. Sorry to hijack the thread, dudes!!!

Sage- I'm getting closer to 40. Nine more years! Damn! The way I see it is, during your teen years you care about everything. How you look, etc. By the time you hit 40 you just don't give a shit. Fart in an elevator? Why not! Buy prune juice and laxatives at the store? Go for it! hahaha

Yeah. My only advice....don't get divorced in your 40's. Suddenly being single sucks. And every woman my age not already with someone is just so damaged they can't even begin to form new relationships. They are guaranteed to either sabotage it, or run away scared and vanish into the night...sigh.

But otherwise, it really is OK. I am far smarter now than what I was 10 years ago. And far more at ease with who I am.

By the time I got out, I could barely make it through the whole run without keeling over.

Smoking is good after sex...snus is good during it.

Well it seems healthier i guess.

Have a look in the lockerroom and the players booth of a swedish hockeyteam and you´ll see a fair bit of it everywhere

Everytime you see an interview from the world cup with a swedish player they usually have a fat upperlip, and it aint from fighting

It's funny you mention that, I was just thinking the other day how I can go a few hours without needing a snus... as a matter of fact, it's not really a NEED like it was with cigarettes, it's more or less "it's been a few hours, a snus sounds tasty right now". Before it was "get the #*$& out my way, if you try and stop me from having this cigarette i'll gouge your *%$*&# eyeballs out with plastic spoons"... ok so maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration.
