I came to swedish snus though a coworker and his suggestion to visit northerner.com. I still have yet to try camel, and the longer I go without knowing what is, the stronger my conviction that swedish snus is where it's at and there's hardly any reason to try anything else as long as I can get the goods. I'm still waiting for the day I see someone pop in a Camel at a bar, and I get to trade that person for some good for the bad.

It's not bad Roo, just very different. So different, it is hard to call it snus. But take it just as it s, and it can be a fun treat. Same reason I love my Discreet, I just think the Discreet s so much better than Camel.

Still,, Camel is kinda yummy in a very sweet kind of way.

While I started with camel, the concept appealed to me more than the taste. I could never use more than a few portions in a day and used them alongside cigs. I could never have used SNUS as adequate nicotine replacement. I did an internet search in an effort to see if camel snus was any safer than dip and discovered several of swedish snus' health studies along with snuscentral.com. I thought it would be interesting to try, needless to say I was impressed.

It was the opposite for me. I could not even get a hold of a tin of Camel because it was still in the two initial test markets at the time.......I would have loved to have tried some back then; trying it after the "real thing" was anticlimactic at best.

I started with Triumph Original! The stuff isn't too bad, aside from the subtle sweetness.

Aside from the topic, I went to my local gas station to purchase some beer. At the counter, Triumph and Camel snus were visible. Its pretty weird seeing snus marketed aggressively in the USA. Now I just need a General fridge at that particular gas station!

Yea you lucky bastards that live in Ohio and Georgia. I love the Triumph Mint. Off topic of the off topic, those are some weird test states. Allright on topic, Yes I found snus through Camel and I've given them credit for it many times, but like someone posted earlier we only see the converted here. My anger at Camel has just boiled in the past week, (the whole trademark issue) Mellow and Frost are not a nice little treat once in a while. I've tried a mellow and a frost again after a month of snusing, and it was horrid. Discreet is what needs to be out there. The only good thing about Camel is the tin. The portion bag material is rough as hell. I can feel my teeth rotting from god knows what, there is no noticeable nicotine, and now (at least in my area) it's more expensive. Discreet is cheap, soft on the gums, tastes amazing, and delivers nicotine. I like sweet snus, but Camel is just wrong.

Camel may have converted the inquisitive, but I wonder if it has turned off many too, who were not so inquisitive to check out what snus is all about?

The reason I say this, is whan I met my guitarist, he pulled out a tin of Camel Frost, I said, what? You snus? He said he got it free with some cigs, but didn't like them, and just used the tin for picks. I had some Swede in my pocket, but he was not interested, and lit a cig.

I am betting it is no more than the folks who have tried Swedish snus first without any background, without the advice of folks here. How many new folks have come here to say how horrible their first taste of Swedish snus was. The salt, the salt, the salt was killing them, etc.

Snus is special, and only special people give it the chance it deserves.

Camel was first...Saw the sign on the door...spitless was the kicker. Rarely chewed in my life as spitting never appealed to me.
I was about to take a couple plane trips as well as a drive to Vegas with the family. Smoked for 25+ years but believe it or not I never smoked in my house or in the car when kids were in it. So the appeal was 2 fold...would stop the endless trips to the garage or deck to smoke...and get over 2-12 hour stretches where smoking couldn't happen. Got me thru the 12 hour drive ok...still smoked when we stopped, so immediatly obvious the nic content wasn't enough to replace the smokes...was close if I put in 2 but that would cost more then smoking lol.
As i said before in the forum. I'll be eternally grateful they didn't name it spit-less dip or something similar. I did what many have...and google the "snus" word out of curiosity of where the name came from...the rest is history.

It's not even the salt. It's the sodium, 2 different kinds. There's a vast difference sodium is awful

IMO, with Discreet, you can actually taste the tobacco and there is enough nic to give you a buzz. My only problem with Discreet is the size. I wish that they would make it the same size as a regular portion.

When Camel first hit the market, the portions were about the same size as Discreet; however, they soon learned that people favor the regular Swedish size portions. That's why they increased the size of their product.

I think Camel has served as a gateway for many snus users. Once they discover that you can swallow the "juice" without getting sick, it's a natural. When I tell people about snus, they just can't believe that snus juice is not the same thing as American chew. Once they try it however, they usually are sold on snus!

I started using Camel Frost... got a mailer for a free tin, then realized the store I was at was offering free cans... so I tried them out. Went home to do research on the health issues and came across the swedish snus. My first portion was a General Original... love at first taste. I ran out of the snus I had ordered rather fast and tried to go back to the frost and mellow... couldn't handle the mellow taste, made me sick... and I still have that tin of frost sitting in my fridge for some unknown reason. It's been there for 2-3mo. now.
