It's amazing how tastes change - advice for new snusers.

I've been snusing for only a little over a month. I began with Camel Frost, which I absolutely loved. When I placed my first order for Swedish snus, I went for flavor, hoping to replicate the sugary taste of Camel but with a higher concentration of nicotine. I ordered General Wintergreen, General Mini-mint, etc., and was immediately taken aback by how "un-sweet" they were. Along with my first order came General White Portion, Ettan, Grov and a few others. As time went on and I placed more orders for samplers through getsnus.com (I highly recommend these samplers -- try everything), I came to realize that I didn't really like the flavored snus as much. I have several tins of Camel that remain unopened in my freezer that have gone untouched and unnoticed. I had a very bad initial reaction to Ettan, but find that it's now one of my favorites. And I love Grov. Next week, when my new order comes in, I may have a new favorite.

The moral? Tantalize your tastebuds. Try as many as you can. What you don't like now, you might like later so don't throw anything away. Experiment.

Welcome to the world of snus, this is SO typical, and part of the standard advice us vets always give the new folks.

Be prepared for your tastes to range all over the map for at least a year. eventually, they do settle down a bit. I would say my states have mostly standardized over the past 6 months, but that means they weren't for the first 18 months.

Also, especially when new, don't overuse a snus. It will likely turn on you if you do. Happened to me with Nick & Johnny

Very good advice. I have 6 opened cans of various brands in my fridge, and switch off regularly.

There is still many I haven't tried, but I could easily make Ettan my one and only brand and I'd be more than happy.

Until you woke up one day and it suddenly made you feel like you wanted to vomit. Yes, it can happen, even likely to happen from reading Snuson for almost 2 years.

Yep happened to me. My second order was for a roll of Knox and nothing else. Midway through it, it turned on me. I eventually came back to it but only as part of a rotation. Gotlands Gul is another that turned on me. Loved it for about a year (one of my favorites) and then one day “bang”, the bitterness got to me. It’s out of the rotation now but I have a few cans left over that I plan to return to after a while.

The moral- what everybody above has already said
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

After giving it a 6 month break, I was able to add the Nick & Johnny back into my rotation as well, but now never more than once a month

Have you found that this "snus burnout" happens if you use a snus exclusively, or just too often?

Will even more likely to happen if used exclusively, but will still happen if just used "too often"

After experiencing it, for a year, I was religious about rotating my snus. Built up about 20 or so I used all the time.

Lately, I have narrowed again. Last order had three rolls, Odens Kanel Stark, Retro and Camel White. Now, I use a can of Retro, a can of Camel, and then something else. Then rinse and repeat. I use a can Of Odens, and then a different stark, and then another can of Odens.

I am tracking my snus usage and trying to stay at 8 regulars and 4 starks a day. So each can of regular lasts me 3 days, each can of stark lasts me 6 days. But since my regulars are on a 9 day rotation, and my starks are on a 12 day rotation, they don't match up. End result is I am using my Odens sometimes on my non Retro/Camel days, and sometimes using other than Oden's on my Retro/Camel days. The end result is my daily experience has a lot of variety, even if I am using just 3 most, or at least half the time.

How long my current process will last no one knows. Maybe (I desperately hope not, but still maybe) I will soon grow tired of the Retro, Camel, or Odens. I already feel it happening a bit with the Odens, and a little bit less with the Camel. Time will tell

Fairly new as you are---4 month and started with the camel bags as well(my new name for them since they barely seem to qualify as snus for most ). Although I have to give them credit for at least starting me on the path of real snus.

At this point my tastes seem to change every few hours. But, as I'm joining the forces of ex smokers, I'm mostly on the strong stuff at the moment. Really enjoying the Oden's ES Kanel(cinnamon) as the tobacco flavor comes through with just a touch of cinnamon without being sweet. This seems to be a good compromise for my taste buds. The Thunder frost is a nice freshener for me and has the added benefit of not killing the breath as bad. 14 years of marriage as of yesterday and I still like the occasional kiss from my Wife hehe. As it's available locally, General in it's various forms became my baseline and I still go back to it regularly. The Sterk being my present fav from them.

I'm fairly new also... week 2 I think.

I'm amazed how quickly I got used to the salt. Before, General tasted like something a deer would like... now I love it. Like you, I thought mini mint was THE stuff, now it seems rather flavorless. Strange...

Ha! When I started on Camel Frost, I was all excited and said to the wife, "This stuff tastes like candy!"

Now, I say "Ugh, this stuff tastes like candy..."

I've been snusing for what 6 months now folks. I'm still discovering new flavors but I have my steadfast Ettan's Original. I recently tried Thunder Frosted and love it, 1/2 roll next time. No matter what mood I'm in or where I am Ettan's does the trick but doesn't mean I don't get a can of this and that w/ my order as long as a roll of Ettan's is on the way.

This is however after Five Sampler Packs from Get Snus and Northener and a major push into flavored Snus. Welcome to discovery, live it up!

Good advice! Skruf Tranbar is the only flavored snus in my current repertoire. That may change again soon!
