    So I tried Camel Frost....

again the other day after almost two months of real snusin' and it was horrible. Besides the sweetness, the thing I tasted the most was paper. No nic fix at all. Granted the only reason I popped one was because of the Triumph tasting so close (that I could remember) to Camel I figured it would be cool to try it again. Boy was I wrong. Granted the frost has been in the fridge for 2 months, but it tasted like paper. Also it was very dry. I guess the point of this post is to tell all of the lurkers who found snus through Camel (like myself) do yourself a favor and order some of the real stuff, make yourself known on the board, and have some fun.

I have a couple of cans in the freezer. I've kept them in case of an emergency, but hope I don't have to ever open them.

I just recently opened a can of general mini mint after about a month. It is much sweeter than I remembered and I don't think I'll be able to finish the can.

To make Camel Frost not seem so horrible, just pretend your putting some candy in your mouth. It's not so bad for, say, a mint.

And if it's not strong enough for you, double or triple barrel that mo fo.

Camel is doing a good thing though. They are targeting smokers. Most smokers have no idea or appreciation for good smokeless tobacco. Take a chick who has never dipped but has smoked a pack a day for 7 years. She has a big ol nicotine addiction and the cigarettes are staining her teeth, she always smells like an ashtray, and the smokes are beginning to take her breath away. But she is a hopeless nicotine head. Quitting is just hard.

Well she sees the ad for camel snus and decides to give it a shot. Its in this neat tin, comes in a nice fresh minty flavor. It requires no spitting which would most likely embarrass a girl when shes out with her friends. Now she is discreetly feeding her nicotine habit without that lethal smoke penetrating her lungs. It s very enjoyable and soon she begins to feel much better sans a couple lungs full of tar.

Now me on the other hand..I have smoked 22 years. Since I was 12. I dipped off and on my whole life also. Nothing I enjoy more than a fat lip full of juicy delicious Copenhagen or Grizzly straight. But I do not enjoy being looked and like a hick with a big dip in. Folks stereotype dippers to death not to mention spitting and slobbering all over the place is unattractive.

Tried some Camel frost and it had enough nicotine in it to allow me to stop smoking with 0 withdrawal, although I did have to keep a portion in most of my waking hours. I never even missed the cigarettes. I thought to myself hmm what if this was a bit stronger and actually tasted like a good salty "straight" tobacco. I found a place that sold discreet snus and the Full Flavor was so much better than the Camel stuff (needed two of those tiny portions though. Started researching and found you guys. Learned about General and their free samples which I got in the mail a few days ago.

General original portion blew my mind. It beat the American brands by a long shot. Just needed a bit more nicotine. The taste was phenomenal imo. Even better than the freshest can of Copenhagen. I read some of your reviews and have spent $70 on General Onyx and Claq Qui from Northerner. Those should have the nicotine blast I am looking for. Can't wait to try them. My smoking days are over.

In a nutshell, if it weren't for Camel SNUS I would still be puffing 30 cigarettes a day.

I don't have any big problem with Camel; it's pretty tasty in it's own way. After using Swedish snus it's way too sweet, but I enjoy a portion every so often.

I actually bought a tin of it today. Because I'm down to 4-5 pouches of notherner energy snus ( my once-a-day, morning stuff), and was too broke to make an order until tonight. It does the trick if i double-barrel it, but just barely.

I'm taking a 30 minute drive to a cigar shop tomorrow that sells general to buy a few cans to hold me over until my order arrives. I sure as shit ain't snus'n camel frost for a ****ing week.

There really isn't a huge difference between Camel Frost and General Mini Mint for those who are curious. I actually find the Camel to be a little bit better because the pouch is bigger and it's spearmint rather than peppermint.

As to how it compares to the "real" stuff though, it's just a little minty candy snus that's nice on occasion. Not salty at all. It's very very sweet. I have a candy addiction and between the mini mints, Camel, and Discreet I've managed to pretty much quit shoveling hard candy into my mouth like a fiend. Lost 6 pounds too, so I'm not complaining.

The differences may be small but make a huge difference

camel frost is way too sweet and tastes sickly.
camel frost does not deliver a good punch of nic for the size of the portion.
                  camel frost is expensive.

general mini mint is not so sweet and tastes really good
the portions are much smaller and deliver more nicotine for their size.

I think it's the generation gap showing again.

Folks who came to snus via Camel all seem to hate it when they revisit it. Can't ever seem to say enough bad about it.

But the old hands here, the folks who found Swedish snus long before Camel snus was an idea in some RJR executive's brain, none of us seem to mind it much. (lxskllr just being another old hand) Since I had been using Swedish for 6 months before Camel hit Raleigh as a test market, I knew what Camel was all about from day one. And it IS a pleasant diversion for me. Nicotine?? Not that much, but it does keep the beast away if you are desperate enough. I lump it in with Stonewall and Oliver Twist. A yummy desert snus, no more.

But no hate for it whatsoever

I think your right Sage. I have been slipping to the cigs. again. My wife smokes, and is trying to quit. when I'm drinking, I have to have a cig. I have a can of Claq Qui and General Extra Sterk, but it doesn't help. Any suggestions????

Smoke the cigarette and enjoy. As long as you don't start smoking all of the time, it isn't a big deal. Cigarettes aren't the instant death people make them out to be. As long as your usage is light, I doubt it harms you that much in the long term.

Get a pack of mini-cigars. I use the Al Capone Sweets, or a small Phillies Honey cigarillo. I don't inhale it, I just puff on it. Gives me the sense that I'm smoking something w/o having a cigarette. The smoke and taste is different than cigs, so it kinda helps to not get used to it again.

                            Veganpunk, what lxskllr said.

Don't stress it. Being around cigarettes, I am sure I would smoke more too. I had some women with me briefly who both smoked, and suddenly, I was having a couple a day at least. When they left, that went away.

So hopefully, your wife does quit soon, will make it easier for you if it is that important not to smoke at all.

But I look at ALL of this as harm reduction. Was smoking two packs a day before. Wven if I had one cigarette a day, I am still 95% better off.

I will say that the longer I snus, the less and less I smoke period. My first few months, it was every other, or every rd day, with a pack bought at least once a month. Then it was every week, with a pack every other month.

Now, I can't remember the last cigarette, maybe 3 months ago?? And haven't bought a pack n a year.

And NOT smokng has never really been a huge concern for me, I just am not reaching for them, even when around much these days at all.
