    Gustavus Lös Tin

I was just sitting here admiring my Gustavus lös tin, and I think it's my favorite plastic snus tin with regards to aesthetics. Elegant, and understated. It's much better than the Onyx tin which shares some similar characteristics.

I love the Gustavus los can, and the portion can is nice too! The silver part is hinged for the catch lid. Plus their snus is excellent to boot! 8)

yea count me in. I'm a sucker for a cool snus can too.

And by the way am I the only one who thinks Kronan and Gustavus are similar?

I can /maybe/ see some similarity, but I dig Gustavus, and threw out a tin of Kronan lös. I think the Kronan takes the floral theme a little too far or something, I'm not sure.

Gustavus is a recent discovery, and love, of mine. It has turned me from a party user who parasites on his friends to a consumer who gets his own. I'll see how long this infatuation will last. The last time it ended badly when the Danes of House of Prince threw in their towel after a fridge fight with the match company, and as a result stopped selling their excellent Prince snus.

Gustavus has a nice can with an even better taste. I did some research and found out that it is Japanese-owned at the top. The huge conglomerate JT (Japan Tobacco) now has a single snus among its other illustrious brands and in a way it is very fitting, since the company started as the Japanese tobacco and salt state monopoly, and now they without knowing it put those two products together in the way they were meant to be combined, with their Gustavus snus.

              Gustavus

Gustavus began as the name of a company in Vargarda, Sweden, which, like Skruf, was started by an entrepreneur. It was purchased by AustriaTabak in the early 2000's following their purchase of the old "Swedish Tobacco" cigarette company (all "Swedish" local cigarette brands).

In 2002, Gallaher purchased the companies and over the next few years, began experimenting with XL portions (Grand), flavors (Whiskey, pure tobacco), and significantly upgraded the Gustavus bergamot/citrus product to what it is today. They also released the first high-strength snus, Strong-Cut, which was short-lived, but its cool can was adopted by the recent Gustavus re-design. Of course, Gallaher Sweden launched LD snus as well in '05 and '06.

Gallaher Group was purchased by Japan Tobacco in 2007, so the snus business came with it. The first snus to be released by JT was Camel, several months ago, plus the re-designs of LD and Gustavus.

                Prince Snus

Prince snus was launched in 2005 by the cigarette side of Scandinavian Tobacco, NOT Fiedler and Lundgren. Its brand managers were the same ones who were investing millions of crowns in new displays throughout Sweden, and thought a snus could succeed on the back of new investment behind "Prince" cigarettes (which included several line extensions).

Their Swedish business was a series of revolving management doors at the time, and after the Prince white portion was launched, the snus was abruptly pulled from the market.

Now, BAT owns the whole business, and they are focusing snus-wise on LS and Pall-Mall, along with the remaining F&L portfolio.[/i]

I see. JT is behind both Camel and LD snus then, although they only mention Gus specifically as snus on their "Our Brands" page: http://www.jti.com/brands_home/overview

But I'm still confused, I gather Camel fags in North America are RJR and not JT but that JT produces and sells Camels (and Winstons) in the rest of the world. Is all Camel snus from JT or only that sold outside of NA?

American Camel snus is made my RJR, as are the other Camel brands. Outside NA JT controls the brands.
