    New Snuser

    Hey Fellas

I been a smoker for about 23 years and recintly heard about snus. I live in Canada and tried the only avalible snus here and loved it. I'm almost completly off the butts.
So I went on a shopping spree and bought a whack of different types.

    -Ettan
    -Nick and Johnnys
    -General many different types
    -Sterk canberry
    -etc.ect.

All of them tasted like a donkey's arse hole and the stink.Whooa
Now from what I understand the Canadian snus is impoted from Sweden and relabled( I cant post pics here)under the Du Maurier name they are a somwhat dry small white pouch that is freshmint flavoured. It tastes great almost sweet with a good burn in the throat, but dosent last long. What do you guy's think this stuff is ???
Maybe Im just a pussy and need to get used to the real deal!!!

    Thanks for your help[/img]

    First, welcome to Snuson gcocks,

I am not gonna say it the way you did, but you are close.

For just about every single person that has come to snus via either Camel, Triumph, or our Canadian brothers version, your reaction is completely normal.

    But....

Don't give up!!! Keep trying the Swedish stuff over the next few days, and something magical WILL happen. First, your body must simply grow acclimated to the salty. this takes about a week. Once that happens, you get a much truer taste of what the Swedish stuff is all about.

Just give it a little time. About 99% of the folks who have experienced exactly what you are, come back here within a week to start raving about how much they suddenly love the Swedish stuff.

You ordered well, you just have to trust me for now, you will soon come to love the taste.

    And again, welcome.

      Hi, welcome to Snuson :^)

I've never had Du Maurier, but I always imagined it tasted like the RJR Camel snus. I liked Camel, and the Swedish snus was a bit of a shock when I first got it. I grew to appreciate Swedish snus' natural taste, and subtlety of flavor. I still like the occasional Camel, but it's kind of like comparing Boone's Farm, to a nice Modesto wine. The Boone's Farm is good in it's own way, but shallow and unfulfilling.

Im new too and I can guarantee that it you keep at it, the snus will stop smelling bad. The first time I smelled it I didnt think it was even supposed to go in the mouth. Today I got a shipment and I can stick my nose directly in the cans and they smell great.

The taste thing is subjective, but I love it. I think its a great way to stop smoking while still enjoying nicotine and between the two snus is better for you so hang in there. I was determined to get though the cans I ordered and actually used some mints at the same time as the snus for a day or two and then like magic, POW. BEST THING EVER

As has been said, perseverance wins the day.

Snus is up there with olives for things that take time to acquire a taste for.
... but once you "get it", it's excellent and unique.

Welcome to the forum! Everything that the other guys posted is absolutely true! I'm new myself and my journey began with camel. From there it went to some free cans of Offroad which tasted like complete crap to me! I then graduated to several of the brands that you mentioned and loved every one! Just keep at it and as Sage said give it time to work its magic. If it still doesn't agree with you feel free to send me any and all cans that you don't like..lol!

              Hi gcocks.

Where in Canada are you located? I've been importing General lös ever since I moved here from Canada.
I've actually never tried any other brands or types in the past 10 years or so of snusing. I had always thought that snus wasn't available in Canada until lately. I'm sort or interested in trying DuMaurier to see what it's like, but I have no idea where to get it.

                Welcome to Snuson nottin

I think you made a little boo boo about where you moved from. My guess Sweden?? 10 years using snus would be some type of record for 99.9999% of us here. Plus you say General is ALL you use, and only Swedes seem so wedded to that one snus.

Again any long, long time snuser is most definitely welcome here.

Thanks to a friend I have tried the DuMauier. Not to bad if you're into mint minis. Said friend also intimated that they taste very similar to Mocca mini mint for a reason......

Welcome gcocks. The Mocca mini line should be right up your alley. My wife loves the Dumauiers, and likes the Catch eucalyptus and General mini mint & Moccas as well.

                    Thanks sagedil

Actually, I'm from Norway. Though, technically I moved here from Hong Kong almost 2 years ago. I lived down there for about 5 years.
Back then, I had friends and family send me regular shipments of General.
Now I order from Northerner and buysnus. Never thought of ordering anything but General lös though.

                      LOL

OK, well you are in a new world now, and it's time to try something drastic. Try something new

You will learn I typically keep about 60 - 70 snus in my freezer. I have about 20 I use in rotation and use at least 3 or sometimes 4 or even 5 different snuses in any day.

They really do make some real good snus besides General.

(reason I assumed you were Swedish. General has 70% of the market share there and a majority of users are exactly like you. They use General, nothing else. )

                        Nuts, 60-70!?

I usually keep 10-20 in my freezer, and it's all the same brand.

I think the story is very much the same in Norway, General dominates the market. None of my friends back home use any other brands than General, and for the most part they use lös.

I'm sort of interested in trying something new though. But I'm a little sceptical of flavoured snus. I'm mostly interested in General Onyx and skruf stärk lös, but I might start ordering one or two cans of something else in the future. When you get used to a brand that you learn to love, it's hard to part yourself from that

See, I am just the opposite. I have been using snus for about 2 1/4 years now. And early on, I discovered if I overused any single snus, it would turn on me and I would suddenly, really dislike it. So after much work, I have developed a large stable so I never overuse any of my favorites.

I understand about flavored snus, the longer I have used snus, the less I find myself liking flavored snus. I am the king of portions, but recently, have undertaken a new attempt to learn to like lös. (see my thread about my adventure for some laughs.) But I can still make a few recommendations for good, NON General, non flavored lös.

I am finding that I do love Prima Fint, maybe a lös I could learn to love. Grove is good, and many, many folks swear by the Gotlands lös. You really gotta try some new stuff. Worst case scenario, you wasted a few bucks on some snus you didn't love. Best case, you discover a whole new world of snus love you never even knew existed.

Since you stumbled into Snuson, you know you gotta do it., This forum would be SO boring if everyone just used General

Thunder Frosted is yummy, I think it is spearmint if I remember correctly. I am NOT a mint snus fan, but I tolerate the Thunder.

I promise that the snus will keep getting better and better. And after a week, at least for most folks, you should be in love.
