    New from Canada

Hi everyone - I'm Doug from Canada. Let me explain how I got here. I was reading about snus at http://www.schizophrenia.com/smoke.htm so I started a search and found some snus sites and then I found this discussion board.

This group is awesome - I think that I've read nearly every post and have learned enough to know quite a bit about snus. 8)

On another matter, if there are any Canadians on this board you should
know that I paid no excise or customs handling charges, which truly surprised
me. My trick was to order 5 tins each from two snus retailers via Swedish Post.

My objective is to quit smoking cigarettes, a 30 year addiction. I'm evaluating snus as a smoking replacement. Just based on my first day
(General portion) I had reduced my smoking quite a bit.

Welcome! Great that you want to quit the cigs - snus will very likely do the trick. Depending on whether you like it or not of course

The General is a good and solid beginning IMO. As you probably have read somewhere else around here this snus is pretty much an all rounder ... a classic every day snus (#1 brand in Sweden).

    Good luck

hey hey, welcome another canuck! 8)

Snus is truly great stuff, but I know when I get back to Canada it'll be a tough sell...it's a really anti-tobacco kind of place (in an irrational "all tobacco is bad" kind of way...). You're lucky if you didn't get stung on the duties - when you do it's harsh

Zero, here's an article you may find interesting about snus in Canada.

        http://www.cbc.ca/news/story/2007/05...s-tobacco.html

Into my 2nd day of snussing - I haven't had a cigarette since this morning (just one cig after getting up) It's late in the afternoon and I'm doing fine with a General portion in my lip

It's great stuff - I got my first portion from a friend in göteborg and never wanted another cig again. I panicked running out of my first two tins and loathed the idea of ever smoking another cigarette again. Brilliance

yeah, as I expected - "it's great...but tobacco is still evil", completely disregarding the correlation between traditional, fermented, oral tobacco products and Swedish, pasteurised, tobacco products, which contain vastly lower concentrations of the caricinogens, nitrosamines, and ignoring the fact that nicotine, like caffeine, is simply an alkaloid - not at all a carcinogen by nature.

Hi again - I've been savoring a tin of portions of Romeo y Julietta and I find that they remain juicy and potent even after a regular snus session. I'll admit I go so far as to softy chew the pouch and suck out its juices. ( that sounds like a line from a porno movie )
My most recent order has been for one Montecristo, two R&J and a Gotland Green - I am hoping that it's taste is elderberry rather than semi-sour apples

I'm new to snus, so I've been sampling different brands. It''s been all pouches until now. I received in the mail today my Icetool. I think that I've been mesmerized by all the tool talk.

Nary a silver or black model is to be had. So, I bought the Titan model - it's a nice shade and looks black sometimes. It makes loose snussing more accurate and clean. So I'm starting on loose snus - a tin of General Original. It's neat that you can adjust the amount of tobacco and nicotine in the pris either by baking or with an implement such as the Icetool

My snus experiment - so far are these:

General Portion - good taste and juicy - will order again
Romeo y Julietta - not a great taste, but this one is a knockout with tobacco juice and nicotine.
Skruf portion - little taste and too dry to be juicy. Won't be ordering again.

                Welcome Doug,

This is a good group. I too learned a LOT about snus from reading this board. I look forward to hearing your stories - good luck getting off the coffin nails, pal. Snus can work if you'll let it.

I started dipping Copenhagen when I quit cigarettes and finally I found snus. Wonderful stuff!

                  Nym Change and loose snus

HI everyone - it's Doug from Canada again. I've had to adopt a new user id because something has gone wrong with my current one. SO I'll be posting under the name "La Cusiniere " (French for cook) until me old account ("The Cook") is fixed.

On the snus front ( bear in mind that I've only been snussing for 2 1/2 weeks), I've just got into loose snus with my Titan icetool. Still trying to get an average dose from the icetool. I've been using General loose and I'll say its got an average flavour, and its tobacco juice and nicotine are a nice hit. I wasn't sure what to think at first, but now (3 days later) I haven't had a pouch since I opened the tin of loose.

I just got a shipment in from BuySnus.com - boy they deliver fast - via Swedish Post Office. Got in 5 tins of loose. My next tin is going to be a Nick and Johnny Stark

Greetings - Thanks for your encouraging words. I was smoking about 25-30 cigarettes a day (I don't work anymore so I have the time to smoke  ) Now that I've discovered snus, I'm not interested in smoking a cigarette anymore. My lung function is improving, though it takes from 2 to 8 months for the lungs to fully regain their functioning. And...my wife is happy that I am no longer smoking, though I have a ventilated smoking room in the basement plus I spent the past year smoking outside.

I said originally that I would evaluate snus as a smoking replacement - that was three weeks ago. I can now say that snus is an experience that is peaceful, positive buzz, far removed from smoking cigarettes.

theoldsearock and everyone else. I've been snusing for 3 weeks now, and I was still smoking one cigarette first thing in the morning. Well today I quit that cigarette and didn't start snus until about 10:00 this morning. I'm hoping that I am through with the smokes.

I find snus so satisfying that I haven't thought about smoking at all. The nicotine lasts longer, the juicy flavour is great.

I'm confident that I'll quit smoking, so wish me all the best!

                          Good luck!

If it gets too hard, just take a portion, take it out after 10 minutes and put in in your mouth again after breakfast. That's what the "Ashtray lids" on most portion cans are made for.

                          Cheers!

Hang in there, Doug... The Swedish snus is wonderful and you'll do fine.

I never promised that I'd not smoke another cigarette; I promised that I'd never buy another pack. In 10+years, I've had two cigarettes. One Marlboro light that tasted like "burning plastic smells" and a pure virginia cigarette that was better than that Marlboro light but not by much.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. It's good to have support when making a life change.

I'm on a tin of Level portions, not a great taste, I must say. I've got a good stock of various snus brands, and I'm keeping notes on each tin I try out.

                              Thanks again
