    ?

Who is looking underneath your lip?

Sounds like... "Hint, hint, nudge, nudge, know-what-I mean?"

I do not advocate Snus Violence - mostly.

Hahaha. The secret is out though, in some places at least. Last night I visited the 2nd shop in Seattle that now sells General, and both shops (same store, different locations -- this 2nd one right in the heart of Pike Place Market) told me they are selling lots of the stuff (at $8 a can!). I actually have a hard time believing it.

Based on this forum and the number of members, in various locations around the States and the world, and based on the fact that I personally know not a single snus user, it seems to me like an extremely marginal percent of tobacco users are aware of snus at all -- Swedish snus in particular. Of course, the vast majority of non-Scandinavian or even American users probably don't participate on this forum, but the fact that these two Seattle shops are selling lots of General just blows my mind.

Just finally bought 2 cans of general locally here in Minneapolis. It felt great! I dunno if the lady working the tobacco shop cut me a deal, but I got two cans of general white portion for $4.26. She said at first she did not want to stock the product. But a swedish match rep. gave her the fridge for free, and sold her the snus at half price. She said that it has been selling well, and she will be re-ordering! I have been waiting for a local source of swedish snus for atleast a year, so this is sweet!

Which MN store was that? I would be willing to make a trip there to get some loose.

My local shop has General for $4.50 a can. Poor guy knew nothing about snus except what the literature that the rep left said. I had a nice long talk with him.

you can get general in nyc, in a few tobacco shops. I think its not big here, because it would be such a risk for snus companies. It would cost millions of dollars to promote and market it here, and would be difficult to sell at first. That may change though.

Until there is a massive marketing campaign, I doubt snus will really catch on in the US. Camel is trying sort of, and I don't mind their product. Word of mouth is only so effective, but I can't imagine smokers continuing to pay $8 a pack to feed their nic habit. I would think snus salespeople would be out there in force educating their stores/customers.

Saying, "I order it from Sweden", is far cooler than saying you get it from 7-11 anyway.

I was in the local tobacco shop (a place I hardly frequent) just to check in and see if perchance they sold snus. To give you some background, this place isn't one of those "fine" tobacco shops with a walk-in humidor or anything but they do have a bohemothic selection of imported tobacco products. So I rolled in there confidently and commenced my inquiry about Swedish snus.

The fellow at the counter (who also happened to be the owner), promptly answered (quote) "We no carry Camel SNUS, that is bad, nobody buy." To which I responded "Well, I wasn't really looking for Camel SNUS, I know what that is and they sell it everywhere. I'm actually looking for snus that's made in and comes from Sweden, I've been purchasing it over the Internet and thought it might be nice to be able to walk in somewhere at my convenience and buy some."

Suffice it to say, this fellow had never heard of it and had no clue what I was talking about. But, after a short explanation and some further conversation... check this out:

The guy told me to write down the name of a snus manufacturer (I gave him the Swedish Match name, as it's the only one I know), my name and phone number and he would contact me after some research. He said he would call me with the price he would be able to sell it to me for and if it beat what I was paying for my Internet purchasing, he would order some!

Man, how is that for service??!!

A word to the wise: Be sure to call local snus retailers listed on the General site before packing up the SUV and taking a road trip (even of that road trip is only 3 miles down the road). I have found that Swedish Match is a bit over-excited to add retailers to their snus list, as 2 of the 4 listed in my local area do not actually carry it. In fact, one was actually quite bitter that I was even asking. You would think that if he gets that many calls about it, he may get the hint that he should carry it.

And as far as snus being cheaper to buy locally then on the internet, I am yet to hear of anyone who says that it is. If you buy it from Sweden, and you do not receive a tax debt slip upon delivery, you are buying it completely tax-free. Every local tobacco store is going to charge tax, as they are watched like a hawk for tax-evasion (2nd only to alcohol). It is just nice to know you have a local back-up for when that lone order from Sweden suddenly takes a month and a half to arrive instead of a week and a half (this has happened to me before). I try to support my local snussery and buy at least a can or two a month from them, but they do not seem to need my help to sell it all out. In fact, it is actually selling faster then they can keep it stocked.

In Cali any smokeless tobacco like skoal or snus is 8$ a can. I cant imagine they sell a lot, I had never heard of snus before discovering it online, and ive been dipping for years and was even in the army and never hear dof anyone from any state talk about SNUS.

You must not be in California with customer service like that.
