Give me a break. have any of y'all ever met any of the boys that make moonshine??? Sublime, that's a hoot. Put it this way. Johnson county, one county away, is the long time center of moonshine country here. There are still occasional arrests for it here every year. And until not long ago, AFTER I came here 14 years ago, Johnson County was also known for having a sign at the beginning of town that said Welcome to Johnson County, home of the KKK.

Just saying, real North Carolina moonshine is not known for being sublime.

Sometime you have to take a chance. I hear many different things when travelling around the world.
Maybe i was a joke that moonshine flavor was selling very well in chew?
Information is great - product test is better

Come on guys. I can see potential here. Moonshine snus could be a best seller down at the local mission or Salvation Army.

I haven't had any shine since my grandpa passed 6 years ago, I would love this snus. I had plenty O-Shine in my day (under age raiding the stash) and i don't mind the taste. Would love to taste the snus version.

I read somewhere that this moonshine snus kind of tastes like whiskey, if that's the case...I might like it. I dig the brown liquors.

Don't get me wrong, drinking moonshine is like a right of passage in my family, hell my dad's neighbor still makes his own, but I don't really enjoy it. Yet I subject myself to it time and time again when I'm home visiting my family. I would prefer a smooth bourbon, or scotch...but that's me.

I agree with sagedil, hats off to V2 for taking a chance, but this one tastes like LD soaked in rubbing alcohol to me.

                        Message To Roo.

Moonshine isnt cheap homemade crap made in the back country,

It actually takes some good amonunt of equipment and is basically like what you buy on store shelves except its not aged at all and the proofs in shine can range from 80 all the way to 190.

Jack Daniels and all Bourbons are essentially moonshine until they are aged.

Everclear and Golden Grain are essentially commercial moonshine brands.

Sure some people out there make cheap ass garbage shine but the ones who take it serious, like me with my homebrewing, make a fine quality product.

Its just straight out of the stil 190 proof white lightning tastes like ass.

                          MOONSHINE

                          EXPECTATION LEVEL: Very Low

PORTION: The portions are a light brown and extremely moist

SCENT: These smell like alcohol. A warm, stinky, tastes like ass but will knock your dick in the dirt alcohol.

TASTE: This was an interesting one. At first, it truly had a taste reminiscent of some of the higher quality mountain shine I have had from the hills of Georgia. After a while, as the portion warmed up, it started taking on more of a sake-like flavor. Mildly sweet, but also a hint of bitterness.

The whole time I had this in, I was trying to pinpoint exactly what it tasted like. Finally it came to me. After the first few mins of Moonshine/Sake-like flavor, I cant help but think that this tastes exactly like a dirty martini. It has that alcohol-like taste, but something in there actually tastes like bitter green olive.

INITIAL OPINION: As strange of a concept as this is, I find it strangely enjoyable. I went into this flavor with very low expectations and came out quite pleased. I will see if it grows better or worse over the next few days.

I am not surprised you like this. And the big reason it is on being kept my recommend list even though I hated the flavor. I know it is an honest snus. And i do imagine a few, if not a lot of few, would like this. Your reaction just confirms my thoughts about it.

I am gonna give this another try when I do my 2nd round of testing.

                              Moonshine??? Strange.

I wish someone would take the taste of George Dickel #12 (TN whiskey with a touch of Maple flavor) and put that in snus. Yummm.

Moonshine - I don't think these other guys get it yet, but I think Xobe comes the closest so far. Now I'm no great authority, and after all everyone's got a right to their own opinion... But Hey!, wait a minute... I am a great authority. So listen to me and forget most of that other nonsense. Here's an alternate (and probably better) perspective on this stuff. What do these other guys know anyway?

(not much if you ask me) Now honestly I don't know anything about Moonshine. Never drank the stuff. So, I didn't have any preconceptions (or misconceptions) of what it might or might not be like, whether rot-gut or finely crafted - I didn't know or care. I was open minded when I first sampled, and by now I've had a few... so this is no preliminary assessment.

My first thought when I saw it was called Moonshine, was - Cool name! Name's are of primo-importance in marketing, and I'd bet that this name conjures up more thoughts of a curiosity to try than not.

Upon opening, the smell is different, like something of a sour/salt dark liquor though I couldn't place it. The first taste starts with a sour note, and like many of the others with some intensity.

It segues into a very hearty, very savory balanced taste that (really and truly!) is almost like soy sauce. I wouldn't call it sake per se, though there may be a hint of it.

The interesting thing is; there's a balance of salt and pepper in the mix that really takes it up a notch, and the ingredients (whatever they are) really go well together. It's almost like steak. Liquored, salted, soy sauce, peppered steak. This is nice! This is a great counter-balance to that beautifully done Sweet Clove (that I haven't commented on yet - so heads-up on that in a day or so). The flavor gradually fades off but doesn't entirely disappear - and it's done.

Do you get that I like this snus? Did I mention that I still RESPECT the other guys who didn't like this? (even though they completely missed the boat on this one).

                                Later,
                                Rob
