    Cigars and Snus

I've smoked about five nice cigars in the past month. I'm really enjoying getting out of the house after a long cold winter and having some time by myself to chill.

My problem is that lately I can't taste my snus. I can't seem to tell the difference between Ettan loose and General loose.

All the subtle nuances are gone. Even when I change up portion brands.

Did I burn my taste buds off? Am I just imagining things?

I know some of you guys smoke cigars. Probably more often than I do.

Have you noticed anything like this?

I'm a very infrequent cigar smoker, but I find they trash my tastebuds for awhile after smoking.

I have noticed flavor numbness when I've been smoking the pipe a lot, or eaten spicy foods. I suspect it's the same thing with cigars. It takes the buds a few days to recover.

Last weekend I had some really hot TexMex. Completely messed up my buds for a few days. But man that stuff was good

You're not alone, mate. I used to smoke cigars every other day, and now I'm down to maybe once every other month. Probably going to be once a month now that there's decent weather. Last time I smoked one, about 2-3 weeks ago, I noticed that I could barely taste much of the Retro white portion I put in later. Hell, I could barely notice the Grov original portion I had a couple hours after that one either. Stogies do a number on your taste buds.

It cleared up some after brushing and rinsing that evening, and was just about back to normal by the next evening. But man, everything was a lot more muted until then. Now I know just why I kept trying to find a more powerful, more robust cigar.

They do make one hell of a treat every now and then though. Being able to kick back with a good drink out on the porch/deck/whathaveyou and puffing on a good stogie.

Yep, kills the buds every time - you need a decent malt whisky to burn through it while you're kicking back and enjoying, but you do suffer after.

Warm spring evenings, a fine malt and a fine cigar - heaven!

You pay the price for happiness, but once in a while it's worth it - and better that than be on 20 cigs a day, right?
