The new V2 product Thunder Frosted which is coming out in a couple of weeks is Spearmint flavored.

I'm a little bummed that Vertigo snus was discontinued. If I remember correctly, this snus & its tin were developed by women for women. It came in 2 fruity flavors. I disliked the snus but to be honest, I purchased several cans just to support 'girl power.' The tins were made out of plastic and were hour-glass shaped, but a little too thick to carry around in a pocket, for this reason, I threw all my cans away after using the snus. Now that it is gone, I am sad that I didn't hang on to at least one of the cans.

        Oh wow.

I hadn't even noticed they discontinued the vertigo.

I have a can of the cuba gold left.

You are totally right about the unique tin. It is rubenesque and curvey. The ashtray is in the bottom too. Talk about junk in the trunk.

They are a pretty good flavored portion. I know the first time I had them they had a really fresh flavour. They were minis so I didn't go out of my way to buy more. They smell like a really fresh pack of premium cigarettes.

For women or not I would have bought them again if they made a regular size white portion.

Arse - when did Metropol Licorice go?? That was a good 'once in a while' tin to stash in the freezer - I have a couple in there so I'll have to pull one out now as a tribute!

The Metropol Peppermint was great - a proper flavour behind the tobacco. Gutted when they delisted that.

Vertigo? Rubbish tin, rubbish snus IMHO...

Yeah, I'm with you there. I can't be doing with slaving through a can if I'm not enjoying it. It's just not worth it.

              I love General.

I have some suspicions about the historical development of flavorings for snus. Salt makes sense, seeing as it speeds absorption of nicotine and acts as a preservative. Citrus (which, incidentally, includes bergamot oil, derived from citrus rather than from the bergamot plant) is acidic; maybe something about the acidity had something to do with its early inclusion in the generalsnus varieties. Perhaps it was a type of flavoring to which the Swedes had easy trade access.

I would have loved to have been able to try some of the discontinued varieties; particularly the Diplomat.

The other flavor of the snus marketed to women was "Bahama Velvet."

It's my theory that the General style(general, common snus) was derived from the English nasal snuff Best SP. This was a very popular blend years ago(and still is), and it would make sense that the Swedes would have taken this, and added moisture to it for oral use.

Totally! I was thinking about the relationship between the SP flavor profile and the "General Snus" flavor profile the other day when I was going through my stash of nasal snuff! I have some Wilson's Best SP which I like, but it's kind of stale so I have to order some more, I'll probably try some Best Dark.

That's a great point that the one may be very directly derived from the other. It seems very plausible. I wish I knew more about the history of Sweden with their importation of citrus (or maybe they can grow it).

I too love General but don't get it that often as the flavor never lasts as long as I'd like. Tend to go through a can in less than a day. Wish Diplomat would come back, I like Retro but misses me Diplomat. Better can than Lucky and 1847 too.

About the bergamot orange, from wikipedia:
Production mostly is limited to the Ionian coastal region of the province of Calabria in Italy, to such an extent that it is a symbol of the entire region. Most of the bergamot comes from a short stretch of land where the temperature is favourable. In no other part of the world does it fructify with the same yield or quality; it is cultivated in Argentina, Brazil and the State of Georgia, but the quality of the obtained essence is not comparable with the essence produced from the bergamots of Reggio Calabria due to the argillite, limestone and alluvial deposits found there.
Doesnt sound like it would grow well in Sweden.

I continue to miss LD Blue. I have 3 cans left. I was pissed when my brother-in-law took one of them when I was on vacation. I know we all have different tastes, but I thought that the Blue was universally enjoyed and would always be there. On a separate note, I would be extremely disturbed if they discontinued Retro portion.
