In Switzerland it's no wonder, that you have to pay duty. It's the norm. BTW, the Swiss duty is not higher than the Swedish taxes that we E.U.ropeans always have to pay. Switzerland has a special arrangement with the EU regarding the handling of snus. Other goods can be imported duty-free to some extent to Switzerland, but not snus. Sometimes it just slips through customs though, after what I've heard. It's maybe a matter of luck.

It's different in the USA at the moment. Snus is still too much of a niche product. The organisational costs for a taxation would still exceed the earnings. It's the same in Germany BTW, only the EU is responsible for the Swedish taxes that we and other E.U.ropeans have to pay.

It's sad and I better stop now, before this post becomes a rant about the semi-dictatorial abomination, called the EU.

    Cheers!

Thanks for the reply, I have the possibility to order snus to Germany, would that make any price difference? I´d pay the EU-taxes directly at the shop wouldnt I?
EDIT: Just read your post again. If it makes no differnce, well Ill have to pay for the next orders -.-

EDIT 2: Does anybody know how it is with China? Ill be in china next month and I´m considering order some rolls to be sent there, maybe I could avoid the taxes like this...
But maybe I should just leave it, and just pay those ridiculus taxes...

Talking about ways to avoid the taxman on a public forum is not the best idea. If the EU taxmen are as bad as the US ones they can find you. 8)

        Just sayin' ya know?

$10 a can versus 7-8 bucks for a pack of smokes, I'll stick with snus. I smoked a pack and a half +/_ a day, 1 can of snus lasts 2-3 days. I'm still ahead.

So I did the math about the Swiss Taxes, Id might be interesting for fellow swiss people to know how the taxes work:

Okay on every can of snus there is a 5 CHF standart Tax (aprox. 3,2 EUR or 4,2 USD)
Then theres a tobacco charge of 11,55 CHF per Kilogram ( aprox. 7,1 EUR or 9,3 USD)
And then we have the is the Swiss VAT wich is 7,6%.
That makes a total price for one can Genral lös of 9,2 CHF ( aprox. 6 EUR or 7,8 USD)
              Without shipping costs that is.

I think thats quite high. Id be interested what EU citizens pay for one can General lös, and also what you´d pay in America.
Wow Im exhausted now, but atleast I hope my school maths didn´t fail me.

That sounds bad! Worse than I expected. I had a small conversation a year ago with a Swiss member of a German snus-forum and back then he payed a slightly lower price than we in Germany.

Just check www.buysnus.com. You can easily switch there between prices for Switzerland (before duty, of course), the EU and other countries.

                Cheers!

Thanks I could have though that myself. ops:
I quickly checked and a can of General lös is 0,8 Swiss franks cheaper. about 0,50 EUR.
Well I never orderd snus to Germany, when I got my snus I had to pay at the post office or directly with the delivery guy.
If I ordered to Germany Id pay the taxes in snus-shop woudn´t I? I mean I woudn´t need to pay the delivery guy or in the post office. :?:

I did some math again, and unless I order some serious amounts it woud´nt pay off.
So Ill just try to get most out of every can I get. And don´t snus at much as I do now.

                    Sorry for double post:
But the stuff I calculated above was crap.
You pay 35 francs on every snus oder 22 EUR plus the other to taxes.
So my northener order I got today was only 5 francs more then the other order which contained only half as much snus. Huge orders it is then
Some nick and jonny east righ now before they won´t be produced anymore. Well... Its okay, no competition for my General lös thugh. Ill try not to rip every can open today
