Are we talking dip here(Skoal, Copenhagen...)? If so, I'd put the extras in a ZipLoc bag, and keep it in the fridge. For the ones that are in current use, I'd keep it in the fridge, even though that isn't necessary.

ok, another one of my instructionals

pinch as much as you'd like. start small, and if you didn't feel enough, do more next time. after using it repeatedly you'll naturally pinch the right amount.

just pinch and lift in one swift motion. with your other hand, pull out your bottom lip. jam it down in there, and tamp it down with your tongue. It will imediately juice a little.

afterward, it's even more important that with snus to LEAVE IT BE. There will be enough flavor for a long time. Just let your mind wonder, and you will stop thinking about it down there.

It's common for the dip to start encircling the bottom of your gumline. before it gets too out of control, take it out, If I could I would rinse my mouth out on the spot thuroughly with water.

I tried quitting smoking with "dip" a few times, and could never last more than a few days. The flavor is just too sweet and it makes me look like a redneck! As well, most of the "dip" would go to waste, since I could only use it on my breaks at work, which are 15 minutes long. In my honest opinion, snus is far superior. However, if you love dip, more power to you.

That's funny, I was thinking the same thing about los snus and how do you control that in the top lip! With either dip or snus you will, fairly quickly, develop a "pocket" where you place it. That will make things easier as that develops. Deebocools instructions are spot on, no forming or baking required, just take a pinch and stuff it in there.

I would keep a dip in for anywhere from 2 hours (early in the day) to 30 minutes (later in the evening). It will produce *MUCH* more juice and flavor than snus and remember that it really is not designed for swallowing. Fine cut dip is harder to control than long cut.

If you bought Copenhagen in the cardboard tins they will dry out much like snus. Dip in the plastic cans will last two to three months at room temperature with no problems at all.

                  2-5 mins?

You gotta have it in longer than that man, lol.

Ok, if we are talking dip here (which I'm assuming we are since you said Longhorn), here's what you do.

I'm also going to assume it's Long Cut... and not pouches, because those are self-explanitory.

Ok, this is going to take some practice, but eventually you'll get the hang of it. (I'd post pics, but I'm at work).

First things first, you have to pack the can, to make sure the dip is nice and tight. Take the can, and place it in between your thumb and middle finger... kind of like you're making a C with your fingers. Now, you have to flick your wrist, and snap your pointer finger down on the top of the lid at the same time. You'll hear a pretty distinctive noise if you're doing it correctly. If you can't get this down... just bang the can on it's side on a table to get it packed.

Next, take your pinch. It's all up to you on how much you want. I take pretty fat ones, but being new to it, you may want to start small. Take the dip in between your thumb and pointer finger, and pinch it nice and tight. Pull out your lip (either in the front, or the side), and shove the pinch in your lip, then pull out your fingers. It should be sitting nicely there. Now, you can press your lip against it, creating pressure on it... or you can just let it sit there. Personally, I like putting pressure on it.

Make sure you have a spitter near by. You don't want to swallow the juice, that's for sure... you'll be puking if you do.
Keep it in as long as you want... normally I would for 30-45 mins.

                  Hope that helps.

If you pack it well you don't really need to pinch hard at all. Just pinch enough to get however much you want, really. When I dipped Copenhagen I could pack it pretty tight, so I just pinched a decent sized lip and stuck it in. Funny thing is I always put it in my upper lip; just felt more comfortable there. You can try pinching more firmly to see if that keeps it together better, but once I got it under my lip it didn't matter much at all.

Since you don't keep it in all too long try starting off with smaller portions. Try to get as much out of it as you can; whenever I packed a lip it always lasted me at 45-60 min.

Quit using Skoal or other wintergreen/candy flavors and go right to Copenhagen. It doesn't have that flavoring burn and there's no other nic hit to compare.

Once you've had a big pinch in for 30 or 40 minutes, give it a flip to get all the flavor from the other side too.

If you really like the flavors, then I would recommend not wasting your time or money on anything else but Skoal. As a "dipper" for more or less 20 years, I found that no other brands compare to Skoal or Copenhagen in tobacco quality, cut and/or comfort. Of course the downside is that they are the most expensive, as well.

The burn should go away after a few days regular use. Try to find a comfortable place in your lip for your go-to spot, but I would also recommend rotating it around so you don't develop any unwanted patches or lesions.
