    First real experience with loose

Today I went down to Serious Cigars to pick up some General Portions, only to find that they were down to their last pack of White Portion. There was a bit under a roll of General Los, so I decided to grab the White Portions and a can of los to try.

I tried the los as soon as I got home to try something different, and all I can say is I can actually taste it! Not just when I press it against my gums to try to get a taste from it, but pretty much the whole time and constantly from about 10 minutes after I put it in until I threw it out.

I like that aspect, but there are things I don't like. I don't like basically having to wash my mouth out to rid it of broken off pieces of snus, and I seem to be swallowing a decent amount of little bits while I have it in. All around, it is quite a bit less convenient than portions.

I will keep at it, to see which one I like more.

You'll be a pro by the time you finish the can.

I tried Los for the first time about 2 weeks ago, and at first I was really discouraged. That is until I found the right pris for me. I use the prismaker, and make it real, real freaking tight. And I'm in love now!! Unfortunately, it's not something to use @ work or when out and about, due to it not being as convenient and clean as the portions. Play with the pris man, play with the pris!

The trick with los is to put it up there and forget it. Don't lick it, don't squish it, don't mess with it at all. Otherwise the pris starts to break up prematurely...

I am a casual los user; that fits perfect with my daily routine. Strong portion in the morning, regular portions all day, and los when I get home from work.

One thing I really like about los is the fact that I can fully control how much I want to use at a time....you are obviously somewhat limited when it comes to portions.

I'm still a noob, but I'm loving my los. I am having trouble with my first can of Gotlands though. I can't bake it for sh-t. I have zero problems with the other ones I have tried (RL, GR, Skruf, Knox). I might end up using los all or most of the time.

The Gotlands problem I am having is that it does not stick together at all. It does seem extremely fresh if that matters (expires 3 months from now). Anyone experience this?

I have about 6 cans of los I haven't touched after bad experiences with Roda and Skruf Stark...nothing against those brands, but I can't make a pris for shit, but I've only tried hand baking. I need to get a prismaster or and icetool...or just **** it all and go hillbilly, which I don't know if I can bring myself to do.

You guys definitely should get a prismaster. Heck, they only cost $2 or less in most places and it makes things a lot easier. The fact is though, if you keep at the handbaking like I did, you'll have it down pat in just a few days.

I actually have my first bit of Los ever in my mouth as I type this. RL Los to be exact. It's really quite nice. I'm an hour and a half into this pris and no mud mouth or loose bits at all. Used a pris master then a touch of hand baking to make it just right.

Yummy. Still gonna have to stick to portions at work, but gonna be Los at home now. Love it.

Yeah, I pretty much figured that would not fly with the loose lol. Also, I may try getting a prismaster. Are Icetools the same thing? I noticed on one the snus store sites that you can get one with points or something like that. I never paid much attention to it since I did not think I would be big on the los.

Icetool is definitely better, but the Prismaster is cheap. I fully recommend getting a PM before an Icetool, since los isn't for everyone (though I think it should be). I just came back from a 2.5 month patrol on my submarine and I took nothing but 30 cans of General los. I pretty much just hilbilly pinch it, or if my hands are dirty, I use my Icetool. I have briefed my Captain with snus in, stood watch with it in, pretty much do anything except eat or sleep. No one really notices, or if they do, they just don't say anything. I think it's all about pris management. Keep it to a reasonable size, and don't mess with it too much, and you should be good.

When I got my first few cans of los, I got a prismaster along with the order. I quickly got the vibe that the prismaster was just a clumsy, unnecessary contraption that only complicated making a pris. If you have the small amount of dexterity needed to squish a piece of crumbly clay into a vaguely cylindrical shape, you should have no problem handbaking.

I think I have like a 80/20 split between los (80) and portion (20) Portions are handy and I will use them if I am training a class at work or if I an going out for a night of hardcore drinking. I Just wish there was some more Los options out there (I am not a huge OR fan).

I tend to always use my Icetool for Gotlands as I find it difficult to bake. I think its only holnrew that can bake Gotlands like a pro....
