According to what I read on www.snusinfo.se/EN/ They say,
"the average use of snus in Sweden is approximately 800 grams (16 units) per person each year."

16 cans a year??! Really?!! That's 1 1/3 cans a month. If each pris is about a gram, that's 2.2 portions/pris a day.

From what I've been reading on this forum, a lot of us have about 8-10 'portions' a day. Does this mean that we go through 4 times as much snus as the ordinary Swedish snusser?


Am I reading this wrong or is my math screwed up? Do you think this data could be wrong or outdated?

i think it could be wrong, becouse for me a can last like 3-4 days. and portion last like 2-3 days maximum.

It's a silly statistic. If you take all the snus used by all the snus users and divide that into the entire population of Sweden, then you get this number. At least that's the only rational explanation I can give. It's meant, I think, to give an indicator of the total size of the market in terms of quantities people can relate to.

That figure could be right taking into account ALL the people that use snus in sweden. That includes occasional users and women that probably aren't so hard core as the members here. I'm sure there are people that snus only when drinking, or at work, or at other times when, for example. they can't smoke or consume nicotine in other ways. That said, like Zero mentioned, its simply a statistic. Ya can't believe everything you read anyway. Unless, of course, I wrote it. :wink:

I see now. I should have read that better. I should have been concerned if it said, "Amongst regular snus users in Sweden the average use of snus..."

But it's not even an average over snus users. It's like if there were ten peple in a room and one person who was a snus user and had 10g of snus in his pocket and used it in one day. The average usage of snus in the room would be 1g per person per day. It tells you about how much is used on the whole without saying who, in fact, is using it and who isn't. Even people in the room who have never seen snus are included simply because they're in the room.

Consider that, say, 20% of the Swedish population use snus. 800g per year per person in Sweden is the same as saying 4kg per snus user per year in Sweden (assuming my guess of 20% was correct). That's pretty close to 11g/day, or 11 portions a day, on average. In fact, it's probably even fewer people if you consider that it's probably only 20% of male adults. If we guess and divide by two, say 10% of the whole population now, that's closer to a tin per day, which sounds about right for Swedish snus users, on average.

Seriously, I'm in sales and usually have one in between calls, but only for 1/2 hour or so.Since I hate to reuse a portion, I get a new one. At home I mostly get a lipfull to last an hour or so. But coming off a 20 year 2 pack a day habit, I think I'm doing pretty good. Saving my lungs and a ton of money.

i only use 1, maybe 2 portions a day - i can't imagine using 10-12 - you would have to have one in almost permanently!!
