Retro White Portion

This was the free random tin in my last order. I have to say I was very impressed. I generally prefer regular portions to white portions as I enjoy the "runniness" of the regular portion, but this white portion was good. The flavor was a pure tobacco flavor with just a hint of sweetness and saltiness. The tin was also pretty neat looking.

Surprisingly, I just ordered another tin along with my rolls of Gotlands Green and Skruf Tranbar.

Anyone else try this stuff and like it?

I'm not a fan of white portions, but I really like Retro original. First rate snus...

I probably should have opted for the regular. Next order I'll try it. Regular is better than white IMHO

It's odd and just goes to show that everyone tastes something different in a snus. I got a can of Retro portion [not white] in a buysnus order before my fishing trip this summer, I hardly touched it and when i got home I gave it several other tries. It ended up getting skunky, dry and stale and half a can went in the trash. The can shape and secure lid are awesome though. Maybe I'll give the white a try next time...

It's one of the few that I regularly get a roll of. I like the fact that the portions are so flat as I like to be as low-profile as possible with my snussing.

Ahh, lxskllr and jamesstew really like Retro original. Where have you guys been on this forum? I think that it is one of the best portions out there that is still available. Retro is my favorite portions when it comes to the portion side of snusing. It is one of the juiciest, balanced, tasty portions out there! I will continue to buy Retro every time I make in order. The only other "standard" flavor portion snus I will buy is Knox because Knox is in expensive and enjoyable. Yet......Knox makes me yearn for the higher quality Retro portion. I hope it stays around for a while compared to my other favorite portion LD Blue. Curse them that decided to discontinue this great flavored snus. I think I have about 6 months left in my freezer. I digress......

LD Blue was a great snus, and there's nothing close to it on the market :^(

Snus companies seem to change flavors like underwear. If it isn't an ancient snus from SM, you better enjoy it while you can. It may not be here tomorrow :^/

Retro White is one of my top 5 snus (damn, I need to update that list again)

I actually like it FAR better than regular. I just tried regular again recently after a long absence and struggled to finish it. yet the Whites, just about a perfect snus for me.

Sagedil, how could you not like the originals as much as the whites? I think that the originals are the best tasting standard portion snus out there. Since I regard your opinion quite highly, what is different about the originals compared to the white portion? Maybe the besting tasting portion is the whites? Mind you, I like the fact that the originals are the juicest portions out there, which I love.

Slydel, not to change the topic, but I noticed in your signature, you listed Skruf Tranbar as crap. That is my second favorite snus out there. I'm just curious what you disliked about it so much to rate it as crap. One of the things I love best about snus are all the different flavors out there and the different things people take from each one.

Ahh, lxskllr and jamesstew really like Retro original.

Retro have been in my top 5 for quite a while, the slight hint of juniper make it the perfect snus with a martini IMO.

When I first tried Skruk Tranbar, I thought its flavor seemed to degrade to something like original bubble gum that has been chewed for too long. I still get hints of that once in a while now. Well to continue, I threw it in the freezer for three months and tried it again. Hell, I liked it the second time around! I got one in right now. So why is my signature the same? I tried to change the damn thing but I believe that the length allowed has changed on this forum. So it continues to be bashed by me, even though it is in my 5 flavored rotation. Summary: it is quite good, just hope I don't get that old bubble gum flavor again.

Not willing to get rid of my other suggestions I suppose. I will try to fix the error of my ways some time soon. Phantom Blue portion might even get moved off the hate list. It has it's place, but it will never make it on my list as being good.

Remember, about 9 months ago, I found many snus just suddenly tasting too "strong" for me. The bite just is a bit "too much". So the regular Retro just comes off to overwhelming for me, where as the slightly more mellow White is just perfect. I am the exact same way with Lucky Strike. I adore the white, but the regular is just too much for me. Now with General Sterk, I will no longer buy any more N&J, and that stayed on my favorites almost forever. But the last can I had, I just didn't enjoy as much as the Sterk. Again, I found myself spitting out the N&J really quickly.

At this moment. The only two regular's I still like are the Pall Mall, and Grove. And yet, if I did an extended taste taste between the regular and whites of those, I'm not sure, but expect that I would still like the whites better.

So it isn't anything against the retro original specifically, I just seem to really prefer the more mellow white versions of just about everything. Ask me again in 9 months. :lol: :lol:
