    Camel flavors vs. Swedish flavors...

So, what swedish brands compare to the Camel brands in flavor?

Like, the Camel Frost, I think is very similiar to CatchDry Peppermint. What flavors/brands are similiar to the Camel Original and Camel Spice?

Or is this comparing apples and oranges?

Sometimes I think it's a matter of perspective. We all know it's too easy to pick on camel or marlboro snus as a pair of lame, imitation latecomers to the snus party. True enough, they are certainly NOT adhering to the traditional snus flavor profile. That said, they ARE appealing to the american consumer who has no prior knowledge of swedish snus and what it should taste like. Americans for the large part much prefer a sweeter taste, as we have been conditioned to it over many years with sodas, candies and all manner of manufactured foods/snacks.

So I see it as 2 very different things, swedish snus vs. americanized snus from camel and marlboro. There are a host of differences in regulations between the US and sweden, here tobacco is only accountable to the government for the ingredients of their products, while swedish snus is treated as a food product so they must completely disclose the ingredients.

What I do fear is government intervention due to big tobacco lobbying to ban importation of foreign oral tobacco products to capture the entire american market. Right now we have some freedom of choice when it comes to snus, it will be a sad day when we can no longer choose freely.

Personally, I don't like any of the Camel Snus flavors. I though the Camel Original would be the best, but I was wrong. I think the American snus brands add too much sugar or aspartame to their tobacco. I think it would be smarter of them to make their flavors more traditional, since they taste way better. Who knows, maybe Americans will like subtle flavors better.

the differences between these new products and the real thing are striking and are very revealing. They tell us how manipulative big tobacco is here in the US market. Take an idea that is successful elsewhere and push something completely different, contrived and manufactured in the cheapest and most manipulative manner possible. Thrust this on the public with the attitude that it is something fresh and new Then complain when it doesn't sell well.

I see it as a method for them to hook young people on tobacco. Plain and simple.

I started on Camel snus. The things I do not like about it are that it (in my experience and opinion) it is in a pouch (and a small dry one at that), the tobacco is dry and not very good (rip one apart and see), and that the taste is inferior to traditional Swedish snus. It lacks the subtlety, complexity, and beauty of traditional Swedish snus. The one good thing it has is that it comes in a metal tin that has pretty colors and feels nice to hold; also, it helped me to find Swedish snus. I remember wondering what Swedish snus would be like while I was using Camel snus. I was pleased when I found out that the Swedish stuff exceeded my expectations and then some. I wish some of the Swedish companies would market their products over here. Or, if Camel came out with a real los snus (and a portion version for those who dig that) that was of good, traditional quality, I would definitely try it. There are my two cents.

Besides the fact that Camel Snus makes me want to start smoking again I really can't stand the sausage-shaped portions. The material is a little scratchy too, like it's made out of dryer sheets or something.

This is like going to a beer festival and asking which microbrew tastes like Bud Light.

If you're posting on this forum, I would hope you have moved on from Camel. Ordering over the internet is perfectly safe.

I don't think that there's anything wrong, if someone asks for a real snus that maybe tastes like Camel's pseudo-snus but gives a kick and has all the other advantages of the real deal.

I can't give a hint since I've never tried Camel snus, but I'd recommend to just try some of the flavored snuses. There's certainly no snus that tastes exactly like Camel but some might be "acceptabe alternatives" (I guess every real snus is more than an acceptable alternative to Camel's dry cigarette-tobacco in a tea-bag, but it's all a matter of personal taste, at last).

                        Cheers!

Hmmm, I considered it more like going to a Snus forum and asking about Snus flavors of certain types of Snus.

I like camel spice as an occasional thing. I had never had the camel stuff prior to using swedish snus, I just like the taste occasionally. Though, If one of the swedish snus brands would make a snus that has a nice cinnamon/clove/nutmeg sorta taste, I would probably never use camel again.

As far as your question goes, i would suggest you try some of the offroad flavors.

                              Welcome to the forum!
As far as the original goes; the lemony flavor can be found in a variety of snus types. I would recomend General Onyx portions (white portions) as the best in this catagory. They are a little bit stronger (11mg vs. 8mg of nic.) than your avarage snus but verrry tasty. I dont think any Swedish snus uses artificial sweeteners like the Camel stuff does, a poster from Europe once said that the sweetener used is illegal in the E.U.( )

The Spice is very close to the far supperior Nick & Johney East IMHO. some other spicey snuses would be the Goteborgs Rape and Gotborgs Rape No.2. Though, the Goteborgs are more herbal than spicey.

Try a buttload out. It's alot of fun agonizing over what to order next with a limited budget, waiting feverishly for the mail every day a few days after ordering and then linning up your new presents from the gods and picking wich one to use first. -Good luck and kind regards
