Many of you may know this already. I heard someone mention it here, recently, in passing. I looked it up and sure enough, Red Man's manufacturer, Pinkerton, is a Swedish Match North America Inc. company. For whatever reason that fact got me curious. Redman is not a product I'd typically even think about buying, but subconsciously the Swedish Match ownership of Pinkerton must have pushed me that way. I was running some errands earlier in the evening and popped into a strip-mall smokeshop. Curious, I bought a can of Redman Wintergreen longcut in preparation to sensitize me for my recent, 1st buysnus los order. I wanted to see if I could practice baking a pris with the stuff before my loose weight stuff arrives. Maybe the fact that it's "longcut", but turns out I'm no good trying to pack the stuff into a ball, but Redman, to my surprise, isn't bad at all. A little too sweet [I know, an OffRoad fan talking] but I'd consider getting it again if I ever run out of snus, as unlikely as that now is.
Redman owned by Swedish Match NA, decent stuff

"Decent?" Redman dip is FANTASTIC!
Try the Fine cut Natural. It's ultra fine cut, comparable with the cut of Snus; but American dip isn't quite as moist. That's the best dip I've ever had. Even better (flavor, not nicotine) than cope snuff. Haven't tried the wintergreen because Timberwolf (also Swedish Match owned, as is Longhorn) WG is so damn good. Will def. try. The Red man Straight has great reviews on SMPOST.net, but I don't like straight dips: too sweet. Skoal Original (fine cut Wintergreen) is also awesome but I don't dip Non-Pinkerton dips anymore.

I have. I went to the MO State Fair and they gave me three free samples.Originally posted by ---Nicotinic Acid---"Decent?" Redman dip is FANTASTIC!

I tried it. I found it sweet, and it had the wintergreen/eucalyptus flavoring to it. Yuck.
I'll stay with snus. General forever.
Let us not confuse snuff with snus. One is full of cancer causing chemicals and pumped full of flavorings, the other is not.

Actually, American Snuff doesnt have that much more TSNAs than swedish snus.
Sure there is a difference but its only around 5 PPM according to a scientific study posted on snus and health board.
Redman Chewing Tobacco has less TSNAs than snus and the Snuff has i little more than 3 PPM if I remember correctly.
Does it have more chemicals, maybe as ingredients arent listed on American Snuff because they arent required to.
Redman Natural Snuff is the shiznit.
thats what i dipped until i switched to snus.

Swedish snus contains significantly less TSNAs than traditional American smokeless tobacco. However, the difference in TSNA content between Swedish snus and Swedish manufactured American "dip" is not that significant. Here is a table of TSNA content of snus and American dip. I simplified the table to make it easier to read on this forum. A more in-depth chart can be found on this research pamphlet:Originally posted by GrimActually, American Snuff doesnt have that much more TSNAs than swedish snus.

Does this mean that modern regular "dip" has less TSNAs than it did in the past? I read an article on the internet that said that smokeless tobacco (dip) contains less carcinogens than it used to. So is modern "dip" pasteurized like snus is? I don't like dip because you have to spit, but I'm just curious.Originally posted by lxskllrHere's a list that's a little more modern(2003)

[quote="snusjus"]No, dip is fermented: that's what gives it its taste. Snus is air/steam cured.Originally posted by lxskllr. So is modern "dip" pasteurized like snus is? I don't like dip because you have to spit, but I'm just curious.
That's why cigars taste so much stronger than pipe tobacco: cigars are fermented tobacco, pipe tobacco is air cured. Fermentation creates nitrates, which is found in processed meats, alcohol (strongly correlated w/ mouth cancer), etc.).
There's no problem with the basic quality of the tobacco. Skoal and Cope are much stronger than the majority of snus; this is because the top and mid-rip of the tobacco leaf have much higher nicotine - as found in Skruf and American spirits. More stem/bottom leaf = less nicotine. I imagine this is why portions are stronger than los on a gram per gram basis - more top leaf.

personally i don't care for it at all. grizzly is waaaay better. plus it's the same price. but dip is dip, and i don't touch the stuff anyway. and just as a precaution i would not use the fact that it's made by swedish match offspring as an excuse to think it's okay. no offense guys.

The way i look at it is use what you like.
People smoke because they like to. Everyone who smokes knows the consequences and choose to do so anyway.
Same with American Dip. I loved the stuff and when i was dipping I wasnt asking myself what the difference was in TSNAs compared to other products. I used what I liked.
I choose snus only because its easier to use in public, no spitting and come to find out it was safer.
I choose snus because of ease of use, not because its "safer"

Just a quick question, I only kinda skimmed over all the posts...but does Redman have a similar consistency to Swedish snus...or American dip?
thanks!
From my understanding, American dip was fire cured. :?:Originally posted by snusjusNo, dip is fermented: that's what gives it its taste. Snus is air/steam cured.Originally posted by lxskllrSo is modern "dip" pasteurized like snus is? I don't like dip because you have to spit, but I'm just curious.
