Does anyone know if the General sold in America is made in the same factory with the same gothiatek restrictions as the swedish general? I know sweden's strict laws is why snus is made the way it is. I don't think the laws are the same in america and i know there are some weird flavors of general sold in america to try to cater to american taste or whatever so i was wondering if general takes short cuts for the american products, or if it is truly the same product as the swedish.

It's the same stuff. You'll notice the back of the can still lists the ingredients, as per Gothiatek, and that Swedish Match NA is listed only as a distributor, not a producer. American General is the same snus in a slightly different can. -
Thought so. I just started wondering because of the can difference. I also think that the journey from sweden and careless store attendents in the us slack on the refridgeration sometimes, Because the us general i get at convienence stores often seems like it hasnt been refridgerated properly or something. It won't hurt you. Because snus is sterilized, TSNA counts dont increase quickly over the shelf life like fermented tobacco products (ie copenhagen) do. Thanks to the unceasing lack of vigilance of store clerks in my area, I have bought several cans of general that were past the best-by date, with no real noticeable difference. since the cans were still sealed, I didn't notice much difference in terms of flavor or moisture.
If it worries you, buy white portion. It doesn't go stale as quickly.Comment

The ones in the coffin cans seem a bit different but they are not bad. I would buy them if they gave you more portions. The ones in the round cans seem the same to me as the Swedish version minus the warning labels.Comment

I think they'e slightly different too, but it might just be my brain insisting that there's a different snus because there's a different can. The last few I bought had only 15 portions in them though. That was a bit of a turn off but the snus is good.Comment

The need for refrigeration is overstated imo. I won't go as far as some, and say room temp storage == refrigeration, but it's close enough. Use refrigeration for ideal long term storage, but room temperature is fine for quickly moving stock. In any case, warm snus is no more harmful than cold snus.Comment

I find the US General Los to be a rougher cut than the Swedish version. Every time I tried the US version, It aggravated the hell out of my gums. Also, the US version was more like Ettan in moisture content. I was still hand breaking pris back then, and the US version always fell apart because of lack of moisture. I figured it was Swedish Match trying to cater to the US dip market. Give the users a product similar to Copenhagen and Skoal. I finally gave up on it, and went back to importing.Comment

Edit: It appears that the answer is that American snus overloads on artificial sweeteners and that Sweedish snus taste better and has more variety....
