    This post got strange quick...

    I didn't know, I didn't want to know, la-la-la-la-la-la... Just kidding. LOL!

They do make a hetro can. The LUCKY STRIKE can is about as Hetro as you can get. It's round and it is metal with that WWII Bullseye Logo on it. What could be more hetro than that?

Yeah, it would be Commercial Suicide in the US. If Corporate could make a buck from it they would here... however they would be chastised and laughed at by the conservative and religious biased parts of the media.

"You do SNUS? That's so Gay..." :?

I'm not Gay by the way and live in the US. Not that there is anything wrong with living in the US or being Gay... (Had to find a way to throw in that line.)

      Just my $.02
Sure they would, if, after cost benefit analysis, such a move would prove profitable.

The gay snus can is interesting and shows not necessarily such a massive difference in the acceptance of homosexuality between Sweden and the U.S. but instead the difference in marketing strategies/trends by smokeless tobacco in the two nations: in the U.S. the smokeless image is overtly straight tough guy, in Sweden, cosmopolitan urbanite.

I know one thing; the most over the top racism I have ever witnessed in my life was when I lived in a Scandinavian country. Iceland has a small Asian minority in Reykjavik that is verbally abused (or worse) every where they go on the weekends. (At least in the 90’s).

While I know Iceland isn’t Sweden, I’m not sure a blanket statement on the acceptance of cultural diversity in Sweden and the lack of in the U.S. can be made by a “gay” snus can.

Europe isn’t always as progressive as it is made out to be.

      Its just marketing, dudes.

          Exactly.

I am on the USST mailing list for skoal and cope, as well as PM USA and RJ Reynolds. PM USA and USST constantly send out mailings of cowboys, bikers, etc... The typical "rugged man" sorta stuff.

Of all of them, I could see RJR pulling something like this off. FOr years they have been marketing Camel Wides as a smoke for more alternative styled people. Tattooists, artists, and underground cultures alike are the target audience of camel (at least the wides and signature blends).

Yeah you’re right. Come to think of it, Camel does go with the alternative lifestyle vibe. They probably could pull it off.

A couple years ago, I quit smoking as a New Year’s resolution. I was doing great: one day at a time. It was the middle of February when I received an odd looking package from Camel. Inside of an intriguingly decorated box was a pack of cigarettes. Under the cigarettes was a sentence that went something like this:

“Enjoy one with a high ball”

The entire box and the pictures created this seductive image of being able to enjoy smoking only socially, perhaps with a stiff drink on Friday night.

Well, I would like to say I was savvy enough to not be defeated by this psychological warfare. Within days I was smoking a pack a day again.

I bet even the timing was thought out: By the middle of February the “novelty” of not smoking wares off.

I also bet a team of psychologists helped with the presentation of that pack of smokes. I’m telling you, the whole motif had the power of Tolstoy’s ring. I still receive packages from Camel in the late winter, except now it’s a coupon for free smokes.

              I had not idea...

*** Tattooists, artists, and underground cultures alike are the target audience of camel (at least the wides and signature blends). ***

I had no idea about the Wides. I smoked them because they felt and tasted like a french cig. Very Noir!

I also, for a time, I loved the "Camel Bucks" and got bags and metal nick nacks from them.

I miss "Joe" but I don't miss smoking now. Politically correct World - Pfwee!

I started smoking wides in my early teens. They seemed to be the smoke of choice for the punk rock/hardcore and metal crews in the NYC/NJ area. Here we are 15+ years later and they are still targeting the same style people for that smoke.

I remember when Camel used to send me free packs of wides. Now the packages they send have an empty package filled with coupons for free packs (that no stores seem to want to take). I still get myself a pack of wides on occasion. I chainsmoke the whiole thing, feel like death in the morning and clear my head with some snus with no desire to buy more cigs.

Ahh Camel Cash! I got myself quite a few cool things with those silly c-notes throughout the years.

Does that mean Jolly Rancher candies are aimed at gays?

                        You fail!
