GN, if the EU weren't so idiotic and looked at the health reasons, like Sweden having one of the lowest smoking related illness's In europe they'd realise something that's staring them in the face, That Snus is an awful lot safer than most forms of tobacco. I just can't get over their blatant ignorance and refusal to accept the facts. The mind boggles at their stupidity.

The logic is this: When the EU started to regulate tobacco, cigarettes, cigars and to some extent, nasal snuff, were present in all countries. Snus, however, was a purely swedish product. Therefore, Snus would have been a "new" tobacco product being introduced to the other European countries. And that's the crux: they could say "nope, we're not allowing a new product, which the WHO says is harmful, in the EU". Hence the ban.

It's a very twisted way of looking at things and one I don't agree with at all, but that is, as far as I know, the reasoning given by those in power.

Circumstancial reasons. They got it banned for political reasons in the 80's (there was a short panic in the UK in 86), they keep the ban because they don't want to be seen doing a "favor" to a tobacco industry, and they do it because they can, since no one knows anything about snus outside Sweden.

Nasal snuff ? Nasal snuff isn't an issue, it's Snus that's the problem

If there is a reason, they're not telling us.
