Couldn't agree more. As a homebrewer and microbrew enthusiast, I have nothing but contempt and disdain for American-style light lager. Seems there are quite a few folks here that appreciate a good beer. I have reconsidered my former position on the Ettan white and am enjoying it with a Bell's Oberon as I type.

I want to design a hybrid.

Your post inspired me to do a strange experiment. Some time ago a fellow board member shipped me a selection of US dip for me to try and compare to snus. I still have some left, both highly flavored Skoal variants and a little Cope Snuff. For shits'n'giggles I grapped the latter and mixed it with some Gotlands Gul ... the result? Well, first of all, it wasn't too difficult to mix the two very different textures. I loaded my Icetool with no problems and injected it in my upper lip. The burn from the Cope was noticeable and made me (once again) remember my first days of snusing. The taste ... no good. At best it was interesting to taste the Gotland with a smokey/leathery undertone, but it was way too strange in the long run. Maybe other types of snus/dip combinations would work better ... but I'm not the one to try. I'll keep to ye olde snus, thank you! :wink:

Umm I was suggesting snus with more "American" flavor tones. After years of using it between smokes snus suprised me as bland.

The experimental mix sounds like Frankendip. It may have worked out better with fresh cope. I know guys who won't even hand their money over at the cash register before seeing the "born on date."

Anyway I wasn't suggesting changing Swedish snus. As I said a more familiar taste might open American's horizons and lead them to the real thing. Camel and Marlboro tried and even though I haven't tried either of them, they sound lke they were way off base.

Upper-decking oral tobacco by itself is a culture shock.

I agree that too many people on the bandwagon isn't necessarily a good thing, but education is. How many people might appreciate knowing there is another alternative for nicotine delivery other than NRT and snuff? SNUS has turned out for me to be the thing I didn't even know I was looking for. If the "risk reduction" crowd is right then all the better.

Agreed that the tobacco-using public needs to know about snus for it to really take off and win converts. Here in Canada, at least, a full ad ban, laws requiring tobacco products to be hidden in stores, and more make it almost impossible to let people know about it.

I see your point, and I can understand that Swedish snus can seem a bit bland coming from cigarettes (or dip) and on these premises it surely takes some time to get used to it and to be able to register the subtle aromas. I guess V2 is the only producer who plays with the more direct flavors, but even their most powerful variants doesn't even come close to, say, Skoal XX.

I wouldn't say it lacks flavor. I'm enjoying a new variety of flavors with the snus. You just have to give it time and remember that what you're drinking with it or whatever plays a good roll. Its like pairing a wine with your dinner persay. snus is not that well known in the U.S. and here where I live, in the south, you either smoke,dip, or chew tobacco. There is no big bandwagon for snus but I feel its coming. Triumph is at just about every gas station around here and I don't know how their sales are doing but if enough people like it I believe that it will start to catch on, especially if people look into the gothiatek method of production. it is far superior to the fermented tobacco's sold at the moment. Not to mention the unattractiveness it is to have to spit constantly or smell like cigarette smoke.
