    Shrinking Portions

Looks like 1 gram portions are going the way of 50 gram cans of lössnus.

    http://www.aftonbladet.se/slutaroka/article14162408.ab

    Now you get less
    snus for money

Therefore shrink pouch on the sly

2012 is a lip reduction of one million Swedes.
Now shrink pouch - on the sly.

First in January raised the tobacco tax of eight percent. One can snuff would be about two kronar more.
Now take the world's largest snuff manufacturer, Swedish Match, a ploy to avoid having to raise the price - the stealth reduces the size of portions, according to TV4.
Previously considered a pouch 1.0 grams. Now shrink to 0.9 - a reduction of ten percent. They want to get over a psychological price limit - $ 50 - where the buyers are deterred explains Frederick Lange, PhD in marketing at the School, for TV4. But the question is whether the change falls snuff in his lip.
    - Consumers will barely notice it, says Patrik Hildingsson information officer at Swedish Match, for the channel.
He believes that they can inform customers about the reduction due to the severe restrictions on the marketing of tobacco products.

I'll notice the difference. It's dishonest, and cheezy. These manufacturers should be ashamed of themselves. Put a sticker on the side, or a small flier in the catch lid breaking down how much of the cost is due to taxes. Fix the crap at the source, and put the blame where it belongs. Cheating your customers is the wrong way to go.

All this is getting really old

I just finished a tin of Gotlands Julesnus 50g

      that 5g made a difference

I had forgotten how long a can of snus used to last
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

If i were a full-time los user i think i'd be making my own by now. Someone needs to invent a handhold portion maker that works well.

No-one ever stopped buying cigarettes because the price went up. SM are cynically trying to stop people migrating to cheaper brands.

Ansel, yeah, that would be good. My New Year's resolution with snus is to try to become a full time los user.

I use Los 99.5% of the time. I'm still concerned that portions decrease in size and Los decreases in volume in the can. But it is a lot cheaper and healthier than cigs. I am also appalled that shipping cost so much and taxes are so high. I don't like that it cost so much to get girls to take their panties off, but what can you do.

Here, here! I've been having visions of something like a roll-your-own machine for snus: just inject a full Icetool into the hard-boiled egg slicer and they (in all their 1g+ glory) fall gently into the waiting portion bags. Now THAT was easy to type...I'll leave the rest up to the real engineers here.

For tax reasons, they did this a year ago in Norway. Now the Swedish government are adopting the Norwegian system, so SM has to adapt their portion sizes in Sweden as well.

Is it me or does there appear to be a theme here? Do you ever find yourself feeling like you kep spending more and getting less? I know I get that feeling a lot lately. And work...well that's just a bogus! How many workers took voluntary pay cuts this year? I work in state government and I took a 3% pay cut, and pay freeze for 2 years, with no cost of living increase, and higher health insurance premiums. Oh and they threw in a downgrade to my retirement plan at a higher cost just as icing on the cake. But I digress...

+1 on paying more to get more. At least it feels a bit more honest. Where is the "transparency" so many corporations are talking about these days?

Most Swedish Match los snus' now has a water content in the 57-58% range. They likely raised the moisture content to maintain the weight and volume while decreasing the tobacco content.

truth!! SWM have also incresed the Ph to up to as much as 8.9 in some brands (Göteborgs rapé white is one)
that is for a fast nicotine kick and much quicker usage of the can!

As usual SWM and other companes make profit when it´s an increse of tax, the prize per a can with 20grams of snus is not more then <1SEK and SWM make a incresse to the retailer of ¨3SEK!!

Gotlandssnus will do nothing about the wheigt of the snus for 2012, the increse of prize will only be on the tax ¨1SEK per can!!
