    Phillip Morris 1847 Review

the 5 cans i was somehow shorted on my last Buysnus order showed up today, as well as my free can of Jakobsons Ice Mint and PM 1847 ( free by way of apology for the shortage.

the can... EASILY the best can, highest quality tin I've seen yet from ANY Snus or manufacturer, the used portion compartment is on the bottom, the lid fits tight, and has a styrene foam insert to help it stay watertight and airtight, in all.... I'm impressed with the tin, but a tin alone won't sell Snus ( at least not more than 1 tin ) so on to the product.

upon opening the tin, I'm struck by how much the smell reminds me of the General Onyx smell, citrus, salt, tobacco

let me insert here, this test was done on the PM 1847 WHITE portions

Smooth, DEFINATELY Swedish Snus and not American, in fact, it hasen't been candied and toned down for the american consumer. This IS swedish Snus made for Swedish Snus consumers.

First taste is of Salt and Lemon, then the Snus " Whang " which i've NEVER been able to describe, but ALL Snus has it, tobacco flavor comes thru pretty mild, dosen't seem to be too runny, I'm Amazed at how close this is to Onyx. granted I'm no Snus expert yet, but....you could drop these in an onyx tin and convince me they quit useing the black portion bags. perhaps a bit more mellow, subdued... perhaps a bit more salt, but VERY LITTLE more.

the Nic hit is close to others, not as strong as a N&J or even an Onyx, but VERY comperable to like an Ettan or General Original.

in all its a quality product, but its just too close to General original or Onyx IMHO to be overly competitive as a newcomer in the market, at least when marketed next to a better known product at a comperable price. IF PM is testing this Snus as a replacement for its horridly failed Marlboro Snus here in the States, its a winner... but in Sweden I have my doubts about how well it will do. It has a Huge stigma to overcome, and simply reverse enginering an already winning formula isn't gonna cut it.

in a nutshell, try it once, would love to have one of the " older more experienced hands " review it as well just to see how close my tastes are. its nothing near as monumental as the new Jakobsons which i DEARLY LOVE.... IceFruit went STRAIGHT to my #1 fav spot. dear god... you gotta try THAT stuff!!

    Great review! Thanks!

I had a feeling that it would tip in direction of General. Still looking forward to try it though ... I have a can of the original portions in the fridge, but for now I'm happy with the two new Jakobsson's.

We all assumed it would be like General from the previous thread and Phillip Morris' emerging market strategy. What we all need to know is whether or not they truly included a hint of vagina? Are you sure that is extra salt you are tasting? Please update!

I have my first portion in now, and I rather like it. It tastes like Grov, with a touch of citrus(very slight), and something herbal. I may be able to replace Grov with this, but I'm not sure yet. Grov has a nice chocolate flavor that this only lightly touches on. I highly recommend it as a try for anybody. It's a first rate snus, in a very cool tin.

Well, thus far we have been told "Herbal" and "Extra Salt". I can only draw one conclusion! The unknown flavor is a hint of sweaty va-jay-jay. Now I am very excited to get my can of 1847!

I've just opened my can ... couldn't wait any longer. Your description is spot on, really. Grov with a hint of citrus, that's it! I quite like it and I can see my self getting a roll of this stuff once in a while.

EDIT: Now, this may sound strange, but it also sort of reminds me of Lucky Strike. I'm not sure why that is. Good stuff!

I was thinking that also. It has a light smokiness after it's been in awhile that Luckies have. Not as smoky as Grov, but there's something going on in the back there.

Wasn't going to order this..HATE the american snuses. But after reading this I am very interested. I love Lucky's, and to be honest am a bit of a tin collector.

                          Thanks for thr review!

I have one in now and it's like.........

If you were to make a knob numbered 1-10 with 1 being Goat Rape 1, and 10 being General Onyx, it's at about 7. All in all, I actually really like it. The flavor that kicks in after about 20 minutes is heavenly. I'm sticking with N&J for "wakeup snus", and Skruf Stark for "reward snus", but this is going to probably become my "all the time" snus.

Just got my 1st tin of 1847 original.

The tin looks amazing. One of the coolest snus tins I've seen for sure. I won't be thowing that away.

I'm not sure what to make of the taste yet. Nothing really came through for the 1st 15 mins or so but then it seemed a very subtle, slighly salty taste of pure tobacco unlike my usual General which has a very distinct taste of lemon and pepper. The nicotine hit seems about the same as that for General. The portions seem quite soft and mild on the gums too. I think this might grow on me as an alternative and find it's way into my regular rotation.
