Prices have gone up over at Buysnus. Prices are getting ridiculous.
Last week V2's Phantom snus was $19.??, today's price $21.72
I can't speak to EU VAT and other punitive taxes or for Northerner. I really can't speak for BuySnus either but I'll tell you what I believed happened and I know from Moe Unz what is going to happen at the SnusCentral snus eStore shortly.
When SnusCentral added the snus store in 2008, the pricing on the back end was all based on the value of the SEK on the currency exchanges. Since we are located in Sweden, our wholesale pricing from the manufacturers is also based on SEK. Our retail pricing is based in dollars. For SnusCentral, none of this has changed since 2008 including the currency conversion rate.
We intentionally have very thin margins as the pricing generates volume which generates the cash flow to pay for Moe's personal snus and keep the lights on. In fact, Moe uses so much snus that it was his benefit not to adjust the exchange rates.
Since our volume is leaps ahead of where it was in 2008, our pricing from the manufacturers is much better today and will be even better as each month passes. We've used those discounts to maintain as much as possible our low retail pricing.
Unfortunately, the world economy which continues to slide into the toilet and trash currency values. We have simply reached the point where we can't ignore the negative currency changes anymore.
Since MaKe WeBo AB buys and facilitates for both BuySnus.com and SnusCentral.com, I suspect the programmers have changed the conversion rate on the BuySnus site which is why you saw a sudden price increase.
Our IT folks and their workload will determine when the change happens on SnusCentral, but it will be very soon and our retail prices will be affected too.
As a matter of convenience, I always blame France when bad things happen. Like the US being forced off the gold standard by DeGaulle after we saved their butts in two world wars, all roads of ingratitude eventually lead to France.
I'm sorry about the coming price adjustments and Moe will do everything he can to minimize the effect on our customers. The bottom line is that France doesn't care about Swedish snus...just those stupid perfumed cigarettes.
Yeah this REALLY sucks for me, buysnus had rolls of GESP for $29 for a few weeks, while I was broke. Got my tax refund yesterday, was gonna buy a few rolls...........BAM! $38.12?????????????
Guess I'm done with snus for good now....this is just retarded.

Still $27.44 @snuscentral.com - gotta figure in the ship costs, though.

Larry I really DO understand currency exchange rates are a factor but I also feel a lot of the time they become an excuse to explain away other factors.
We don't have a competitive free market system in the snus world. We basically have two companies doing almost all snus distribution. Northerner and Make WeBo. When government restrictions and regulations necessitate the building of a USA warehouse, it imposes a lot of costs that have to be ultimately paid for by the snus consumer forcing Northerner to raise their prices. So when Northerner is forced to raise prices it allows Buysnus to raise prices to make up for the loss of business they experienced when sales dropped due to the imposition of UPS shipping to the states.
P.S. and isn't it true that the governments are the cause of our currencies being in the toilet in the first place?

What I don't understand from all of this is how such a big jump occurred so abruptly. I have to agree with what you said, this almost seems like they are using exchange rates to cover up the real reason. Everywhere I read about snus going up in price all use the exchange rates as the reason in an extremely broad sense in the way they describe it. The thing I don't get with the exchange rates is that at the most, prices should be going up and down in a relatively small amount. If the exchange rate is to blame prices should subdue in the coming weeks/months assuming the economy levels itself out as it should, however I don't see them reducing their prices if they know they can get more..
Wouldn't it be nice if they at least gave us some advanced warning about this? Maybe like an email saying something like "Hey, prices go up in a week. Order at the current price while you can". My guess is with snusbargain and VIP gone, the retailers know the competition is slowly dwindling and they can raise their prices.
I'm still getting emails/newsletters from getsnus suggesting that snusbargain.com be checked out for great deals... but of course it's been, what, about a month since anything has been posted.
Keep checking snusauction. It's hit or miss with the prices and the selection sucks but every now and then you can get a good deal. I keep hoping they will stick some los on there soon.
