A quick ? about how you found snus.

My late stepfather got me semi-interested in dip back in the 1980's and he called it snus though I took that to be a slang term for Skoal Key. It was pretty good but not available in California and I rapidly gravitated back to my pipe and sometimes cigarettes. Last year I got a few tins of Camel but they weren't all that great yet the concept grabbed me. Had the advantage of internet access this time so I found Swedish snus. Haven't looked back. Too bad Camel cannot make a decent snus.

They have the ability to make a great snus.. They just choose not to.

I was introduced to it by camel 'unfortunately'. The american camel is a disgrace to snus, but i can't completely hate it as it did start me on the path. Never would have found honest snus if it weren't the sh*t camel.

I know snus since I was 12 :-)

I was in Oslo and all the bigger guys in school were doing it.... I was afraid though .... it burned my lip like hell at that time and gave up after the first time I had it. =))

And went about smoking :-)

Which wasn't the greatest thing to do back then ... well... yeah....

I heard about it on the radio. Just a mention of the name "snus" and how it could possibly be a very low risk tobacco product. I heard it on two shows and it was only a fleeting comment on both of them (Opie & Anthony, and Bruce Williams...VERY different shows). I was looking to get off of dip and it has been the saving grace. I did a couple of searches and wound up ordering a bunch of cans every month for a year or so. Even better than a saving grace...it's been an oasis of flavor and nicotine. Only took 2 portions for me to be hooked.

I was trying to quit smoking so I started buying different brands of cigarettes every time I got a pack hoping that would make it easier. I had no idea what snus was and never thought of it as a replacement. I bought a pack of Marlboro and got a coupon for Snus. The next time I bought Marlboro I got Spearmint snus. That led me to do an internet search about the nicotine content since it was not helping stop the cravings. I found out Camel Winterchill had a higher nicotine content but at the end of the day they were both garbage. After some more research I got very interested in Swedish snus and placed an order. Since the day I got my first order I have only smoked 2 drags of a cigarette and I threw the rest of it away since it tasted terrible. I feel like I have discovered a new food group and for the first time in my life I know I am done smoking.

I remember reading about it on a different forum, or at least glancing at the post to see what it was. Then I heard it on Jimmy Pardo's podcast, one of his guests was using it and Pardo was chastising him,and calling him disgusting. The guest was very defensive, he mentioned, that he was using it to quit smoking, and that he was ordering it from Sweden.

And about a week later, my friend casually mentioned, that his mother is going to Sweden (business). I asked if he knew about snus, he said he did, and said that his mother had brought some back from Sweden before, so I asked him if he could ask her to bring some snus back for me. And after a few days I was enjoying general original portion and general white for the first time.

A few weeks later I placed an order for phantom blue (****ing yuck), and general mint white. Even then, in my eyes, it was too expensive to order, with all the taxes.

Got a free can of the Camel junk from a gas station. Took it home and threw it on my desk. I had no real intention of even trying it. I never liked the idea of oral tobacco. Then Vegan told me he got the same can and that he kinda liked it. So I decided to give it a try. Then he told me about this site and the real stuff. That's about it.

Researhed options and Camel Snus was in it's test marketing stages, but only in a few states. I was on a long countdown to two smokes a day and could not wait anymore for Camel to arrive.
Ordered the real stuff via UPS and on day 0 used the minis (should of used starks) all day long to quell the urges. Tried the camel about a month later which never hooked me.

First time I came across it was in 2000 when I saw a Swedish guy I worked with pinching some loose in the pub. I thought it was gross looking and dismissed it as a crazy foreign fad, likening it to chewing tobacco, with all associated spitting and oral cancer. I didn't believe him when he was telling me about how great it was, and how it was better for you than smoking. I was a heavy smoker at the time and just didn't understand why anyone would want to get nicotine by any other means.

A couple of years later, another Swedish guy from work (now a good friend) was using portions, and while I still wasn't tempted (why would I give up my beloved smokes, etc etc), it seemed more acceptable to me than loose.

Roll forward about 8 or 9 years, I'd been off the cigs for 5 years, struggling to control cravings that reared their ugly head over a couple of months, culminating in me having that dreaded "just one cigarette". I didn't want to start smoking again, and I had the lightbulb moment about snus, so did some googling, found The Northerner, found Snuson, and I've been happily snusing since. And kicking myself I never tried the stuff years ago when I had the chance!
