Okay, I've been an on-and-off dipper for some time now. I recently heard of snus and how much better it is for you than any other tobacco. Now, I'm a good ole' boy who loves nothing more than grabbing a pinch of dip and throwing it in my lower lip. I just picked up my first can of Sweedish snus (General Wintergreen) and I find myself missing the feel of long-cut dip, I never cared for the dip pouches either. Is there any kind of long-cut snus available? If so, what brands do you guys like best?

I did see that, doing an online search I wasn't able to to find any for sale though. I'm not opposed to trying any kind of loose snus but I cant seem to find it anywhere in stores. I'm in NE Ohio, If any one knows where I can find some loose snus I would love to know where!

I am sure one of the US members near you can advise on where to buy loose in stores, General loose will prob be your best bet but some others are carrying Oden's, Thunder and Offroad. All else fails do an online order and your choice is increased 10 fold! The closest snus to snuff dip would probably be Prima fint or Roda Lacket, they are quite fine (finer than copenhagen snuff for example) Grov and Ettan are always good, Oden's (any of them) loose is a good grind and thunder is fairly coarse but very moist so bakes easily.
You don't need to spit with snus and once you go top deck, you don;t go back

For right now I believe General is going to be your only bet unless you're in a major city/somewhere rare that has something other than general loose for some reason.
I know my local quick n ez has a general fridge. i didnt get a good look but it looked like there were 4 rows so im guessing it has mint original wintergreen and los. Still havent needed it yet though. Maybe i'll get a can one day to see what the price is. And to tell them to call me if they're getting rid of that fridge ever.
Anyways. Like some other people have said. Try using the los in the traditional way. Roll it into a ball and get it nice and compressed. Stick it in the upper lip. If you like having more juice move it further back. Don't push it too far back, it will squirt around the end of your teeth and end up in a disgusting glob in the middle of your mouth (done it twice at my old job, was not pleasant) I was always one for grabbing a nice fat pinch of cope and throwing it in, but the process of forming a perfect prilla and placing it precisely in your upper lip totally made me forget about dip. It's kind of like using a straight razor. It takes longer and there more prep but it always more relaxing and better than the other way. Give it a try.
If you do place an online order I'd suggest stocking up on thunder frosted los and possibly some ettan or prima fint. Nothing it going to taste like dip unfortunately but you will quickly learn to like the new flavors. Offroad frosted is good as well (Avoid offroad original and the rothbrix products)
Quick question for you since you mentioned you were in Ohio. Are there no cell phone towers there? I just recently starting taking calls from Ohio at work and there is not a single person with decent reception ever.

Welcome to the forum bro.....I too came to snus from dip (25+ years of dipping)
The best thing I can tell you is to approach dip as a related but different tobacco product. If you try to find a snus that is like dip you will either wind up with garbage or just be frustrated.
Second, there are two differences between dip and snus. The first is lip feel. At first snus will be a bit more soluble (for lack of a better word). The second is taste. Snus will be more subtle in taste. Therefore try stronger flavors and courser grinds at first.........Knox, Extreme, General ES (extra stark) Skruf, Grov, Granit, Gustavus, Phantom (Rothrox) Blue.
Third, there are chemicals in dip that are not in snus.....for the first few weeks I found my lip craving that "extra" in dip.....use a stronger snus and know it will pass (that extra is one of the good reasons to switch to snus)
Fourth, though snus is traditionally used in the upper lip, many (myself included) use it "dip style" all the time....sometimes a man has just gotta spit.......That said learning to upper deck it is good because it is more discrete, and the snus tends to last longer....at least at first.......eventually upper and lower will last about the same....plus upper or lower....spitting is an option not a necessity
Finally...........check out the Dipper's Guide to Snus.......... it is about all things los.......a lot of folks have contributed a lot of good info there.....many of them x-dipper.......you might find it a helpful intro.
You can find the guide here http://www.snuson.com/forum/showthre...-Guide-to-Snus
Anyway....enjoy....and let us know what you find works for youWhen it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

Tinder Box at Easton in Columbus sells Jackobsson's and Thunder in pouches. I have not seen Thunder los there. If a Tinder Box near you sells Thunder, it might be willing to order some los.

Back to the loose snus; I have found plenty of gas stations that have General Snus fridges, the problem is they only have portions. They have Mint, Wintergreen, and Original, but only in poritons. I'm thinking about just cutting open the portions and emptying the snus back into the can. It seems like it may be a bit too finely ground to be able to get a good pinch. Has anyone tried this?

Originally posted by lxskllrNot a good idea. They're formulated differently, and I haven't heard of anyone getting satisfactory results doing that. It's also very expensive. You're getting half the snus at a higher price.
