I want to like Swedish Snus better than American... But I don't. Help me!

I recently purchased 3 tins of snus from Northerner: Jakobbsens Icefruit, Oden's cold, and General Long.

I do enjoy them, but here's the problem... I like American version (Camel Robust, Marlboro Mint) better.

The problem with the Swedish Snus is that it drips, which makes my throat sore, makes my spit brown, which the American snus don't do, and leaves a yucky residue in my mouth. Also, since I started Swedish snus, I have gotten gator lip (white patches that slough off) on my lower lip! Which is very odd, because I put the snus in my top lip.

Can you please help me with some flavors, and tricks to make it drip less?

Buy white portions. Other than that keep the ones you have directly under your nose. Also always have a beverage ready to wash away any drip...

I'd say the Catch Mint or General Mint white portions. Neither are nearly strong enough for me but the flavor is quite minty without the drip or "snus" flavor.

Yeah, General white and Nick and Johny white, Onyx, tre ankare is good as well. all great snus. but I'm sure there are more that others will recommend.

I am not getting it. If you like American snus, why not stick with American snus? I would love to be able to go into a gas station and buy a snus I like for $3 a can. Why would you want to get into something they charge $20 just to ship?

I kinda thought the same thing. I just chalked it up to him finding this place and everybody saying camel sucks so he went with it. Kinda like being a kid and eating shitty ice cream from a gallon tub was good but then you heard about Ben and Jerry's and saved up a few pennies to see what all the fuss was about. And it was so far better, Only for this guy it hasn't been an instant response to the goodness. So I'm just trying to help him along.....

Could be. Perhaps he should try Thunder Frosted. Not really my cup of tea but it does seem to be a gateway snus.

General White, tre anakare, thunder frosted extra strong (2), oden lakrits (I saw a really good review for this one), and goteborgs lime white portion (2).

Based on what you mentioned earlier, the Thunder frosted may be a bit much for you (strong and drips).

However, if you don't end up enjoying the Gote white lime, then I am not sure if there is any snus you would like.

No worries man. If you like the American stuff, enjoy. Having said that, your tastes might change over time. Mine certainly did. I was an American snus user like you, I loved the Camel stuff. When I tried my first swedish snus (general portion) it was like a horrendous salt bomb in my mouth! Where was all this pure tobacco flavor everyone was talking about? I missed the sweetness of my Camel.

But I persevered and occasionally tried more Swedish Snus, while primarily using my American. Eventually, the sweetness of the American snus started to get to me, and the true flavor of the swedish snus began arising from behind all that salt. Now all I taste is the pure tobacco goodness, and the swedish match (General etc) brands even taste sweet to me. I have a General Strong White Portion in right now and it tastes like caramel, like a good light cigar tastes, very pleasant.

I see you have already placed another order. I'll be interested in hearing how you like the other stuff. White portions are definitely what you want if you're looking to avoid drip. I'm glad you are trying the Thunder Frosted, since its one of my favorites, for night time use only though. However, I'm afraid going from American Snus to Thunder Frosted, the nicotine will be a bit much. If you find a portion too strong, you might try folding the portion lengthwise before putting it in your lip. This should slow the speed of the nicotine absorption.

seriously....it sounds like you have a good order…..give each their time……in the end it will be worth it simply from an oral health stand point……I do not think a regular and prolonged use of Amerisnus would be a good thing gum/teeth-wise

Mind you……….when I first tried portions........I always kept a bottle of water close by for the first 5 minutes or so.....any drip I rinsed down with the water and thus avoided the burn.....after the 5 or so minutes.......the portion settled down and all was well.

That said....you will need to develop the ability to drink without swishing the water all around your mouth and thus against the portion (the more moisture…..the more drip….like blue said keeping the portion closer to the front of the mouth rather than on the side will also help produce less saliva and thus less drip)....anyway….trying to learn how to control the drink in your mouth will make you look stupid at first…....like a 6th grader trying to lean in for a kiss....but you will get it down in a few tries

If you're looking for flavors that are close to American flavors, my suggestion is Thunder Cool Mint. It's pretty close to General Mint, I've really not had any issues with it dripping and the Nicotine is at 16 mg. So, the flavor is pretty recognizable and still has that Swedish snus taste, even though it's made in Denmark. I've also heard that they have released at White version that only available at Buy Snus. Tried it and, I have to say, it's really good! Worth adding to your order mate! :-)
