Difference betweens Dip and Snus ad the flavors

I am still a little confused on the differece between dip ad snus because on some tins of grizz straight longcut it says "snus" I beleive.

Also I love copenhagen straight longcut and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for other dip (longcut only) because i see soo any brands on this forum I dont know what have of them are. I like all the new Skoal Extra flavors as well if there are any other dips out there like that as well as the Stokers tubs of wintergreen and straight.

I am in France and I am trying to get a bulk order sent to me but I want to expand my horizon of dips as well.

So if anyone can tell me the difference between dip and snus and refer me to other types of dip that are similar to Copenhagen longcut straight and the other kinds that would be awesome.

    Thanks for the help.

Swedish snus and American dip are both oral tobaccos. In a nutshell, snus is steam-cured and made in a way you don't have to spit out saliva/tobacco juice. Snus has very low rates of cancer causing bacteria. Many people come to it for those reasons. American dip is flue cured and many dippers need to spit out the tobacco juice. Dip in general causes excess saliva and outside of long term users, it generally gives people stomach problems if the saliva is swallowed.

A few American tobacco companies are now coming out with their own version of snus. Most people find the American snus sickly sweet and lacking in nicotine. There is some confusion on the word snus. In the U.S., dip is generally referred to as 'moist snuff.' In Swedish snus means snuff, but they are two very different products. The Swedish snus was out for a long time and American Dip is a bastardized version of Swedish snus. Throughout the years, they have gone in very different directions.

        Thanks for the informative response.

So if I was to switch to snus from american dip and I really enjoy long cut flavors of Copenhagen straight and Stokers straight and wintergreen, do you have any suggestions of brands that would be similar to these?

        Thank

I would not approach snus and dip the same way. In other words, asking what snus will taste like dip is like asking which beer tastes the most like your favorite wine. Taking that approach will only frustrate you and keep you from seeing snus for the unique product that it is.

As far as which snus I would recommend for those coming to snus from dip……….. I would say begin by trying some of the bolder flavors first. Things like:
          Extreme los
          General EX
          Grov
          Knox
          Granit
          Gustavus
          Phantom Blue

Try them and let them stand or fall on their own merits.....not because they taste like something else

For long term regular use snus will be a much safer option than dip (I dipped for over 25 years and will never go back. The damage to gums alone is a reason to avoid dip as your primary tobacco)

You might want to check out the Dipper's Guide to Snus. You will probably find a lot of the info there helpful

          The Guide is here

          Hope this helps
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

I bought three tins of snus from www.snusline.com 8 days ago and I received all three today, so it took 6 business days for it to arrive. Free shipping and they put it in a very discrete package as to not alarm customs. I paid a total of 5.97 (euros) for three tins with free shipping that arrived in a week. I would HIGHLY recommend this site. I am in France as well so it is not the easiest thing to get dip or snus here. I couldn't be happier and I would definitely try this site. They claim to ship worldwide for free but I have only tried France.

They are two different animals. Go ahead and try all of it. In the end the snus will probably win out...it did for all of us. I'd say though, that the natural snuffs such as Copenhagen would be the closest to snus. Grizzly makes a decent natural too but both of them have more of a bite than snus. Snus is much more subtle but as you come to appreciate that...that's when the real enjoyment comes in.

I hope that it's cost effective for you. I remember cigarettes were wicked cheap in France, but then I was there in 1992. Wow, those were some good times. Do you get into the twists or bits? Those are pretty good and I'd imagine they'd be readily available at a tobacconist. A little more like dip but used the same as snus.

Cigarettes here just went up so a pack of Marb Reds is 6.60 (Euros) so thats roughly 8.50 USD. Dip, Snus, twists, bits every thing except cigarettes is pretty much illegal in France, so its hard to get any chewing tobacco of any sort. snusline.com is very cost effective for me.

I have never tried twists or bits either. I did have a questions though: I havent dipped in a month and when I took a pinch of loose snus last night, this morning my gums were noticeably torn up, even more so then when I stop dipping and then pick it up again. I am going to see how this pans out but I may need to swith to snus portions, which I dont prefer.

The irritation you're experiencing is most likely from the salt that's used in the manufacturing process. It is just ordinary table salt and as you get accustomed to Swedish loose, this irritation should subside. If you've used any of the snus brands that Dog suggested, they are pretty finely ground, even thought they are classed as coarse ground. Can you let us know which snus you were using when you noticed this and if you're using a tool to make the portion or just pinching it?

i know when I first starting using loose with an Icetool, if I compressed the portion to hard, it would scuff up my inner lip. If this is the case, just use a bit less pressure on the tool. Please let us know about the brand and how your making your portions!

Thanks for the response. No I don't use any tool I just pack it in the palm of my hand, pretty firmly. I use all sorts, like offroad, megapole and phantom. I figured out that if I put a little piece of toilet paper, about a half of a sheet around the snus before I put it in, it keeps it in the same spot as well as saving my gums. It sounds a bit crazy, but it works like a charm for me
