    Snus irritating gums

So, Ive been snusing since december 2007 and now I am bit worried about my gums. Nothing really terrible, I guess, but I thought about asking here if anyone has/had the same problem, before I run to dentist.

Ive noticed some irritation and bleeding from gums when brushing my teeth. There are also some white spots and just where the gum meets the tooth (dont know if there`s any english word for it), I can clearly see its alot more red (due to blood) than other places where snus is not in touch. http://www.hammaslaakariasemabepop.f...ulehtuneet.jpg like in that picture the second tooth from right.

I guess this is because snus going too loose and getting muddy (after about 30min) and then sticking to my teeth, which I believe is pretty normal.

Are other people experiencing this or should I stop using the stuff for a while and see what happens ?

Do you vary where you place your snus? It's good to do that as it gives your gums a rest.

Using loose I guess the key would be to brush your teeth thoroughly and to floss to make sure you get the loose Snus out. I find an electric toothbrush more efficiant than a manual.

Ref the gingivitus I would try an antiseptic mouthwash such as Corsodyl. This should hopefully calm things down.

Exactly what he said. Floss and mouthwash are my best friend since I started using loose near 100% of the time.

Don't forget the miswaak! I use one of those inexpensive electric toothbrushes from the drugstore and it works pretty good. I also use two different mouthwashes, Biotene which is great, and a fluoride one (there's no fluoride in the water here). I alternate the mouthwash, one in the morning, one at night.

Thanks for all the tips. I ended up buying Corsodyl gel, which is used daily just a like normal toothpaste. So far it has worked pretty well, my gums are getting back to good shape and no bleeding anymore. 5 days without snus could be called a downside, but Im sure it will taste so good when I finally get back to baking.

So, if you notice anything weird on your mouth and its likely related to snus, I recommend buying the Corsodyl gel and using it twice a day.

Don't know if they sell this in your neck of the woods, but Biotene toothpaste will keep your gums immune to sores. Regular toothpaste drys out your mouth, and snus-ers brush alot more than non-snus-ers (hopefully) which can make you even more prone. This stuff actually enhances your saliva production and keeps your mouth healthy. Good for bad breath too.

I would suggest a more rigorous dental care program. If your gums bleed you need to floss them. I FUC***G hate floss so I use what is called an interdental brush. It is made by curaprox in Switzerland. Even a dummy like me can easily floss my entire mouth in just a few minutes. This will stimulate your gums and stop the bleeding. I also use a sonicare tooth brush that seems to do good for me. I have had the sonicare for 8 years now.

Let me know how it turns out!
