The survey does look more legit now with the official info.

However, I do not wish to take part because I believe the word "dependence" shows that this is going to be a study on addiction rather than the benefits of switching, or the harm reduction aspects of snus.

Mr. Mushtaq you might get a lot of cooperation if the study were to evenhandedly research the reduced harm characteristics of smokeless tobacco. Few on this forum are interested in further arming anti-tobacco activists with another study on addiction. Everyone on this forum already knows that nicotine is addictive, that smokeless tobacco is far less harmful than smoking, that snus in particular virtually eliminates the harm from tobacco usage, and that the FDA is blatantly propagating gross falsehoods by requiring alarmist and unnecessary labels on smokeless tobacco containers. If you'd like to do an unbiased study examining the reduced harm advantages of smokeless then the members of this forum, Oklahoman or otherwise, will cheer you on.

The word "dependence". If that is the true nature of the "study" then it is a waste of grant money and/or some grad student's time. If the real nature is an attempt to document harm levels of smokeless then it is legitimate but subject to manipulation of the data to advance a pre-determined agenda. It is excruciatingly difficult to not be suspicious of such studies in the present atmosphere of Tobacco Derangement Syndrome so prevalent in our country. You can call me a cynic but I hope not a sucker.
                          Agreed

What is dependence? Someone who eats daily?

Good luck finding many snusers without a history of substance abuse (alcohol).

I'm addicted to breathing - I just can't seem to kick the habit. I'll get the hang of it one day.
