    Snus and carries (cavities)

Anyone have any experience with snus and carries? I started using snus about 6 months ago and went to the dentist for a bi-annual cleaning. I have only had 1 cavity in my life previously, but was diagnosed with 3. One turned into a root canal  I am not fully convinced that snus was the cause and neither was my dentist. (He is cool, only saying not to place a portions in the same place all the time) I also had an amazing lack of tartar build up which I read was most likely due to the snus. I just wanted to hear of other people experience with snus and carries. Thanks!

Snus is alkaline (basic) and actually, like your saliva, promotes the reabsorption of minerals into your teeth, rather than the other way around (causing carries). It has been noted that some people develop gingival recessions from snus, in combination with poor dental hygiene I suspect, but I've never heard of an increased risk of cavities.

I've had a ton of cavities over the course of my life. I finally got into the dentist's for the first time in about three years lately (three root canals last time I went in...), and it was the first time in my life that I have been to the dentist and found cavity-free! Yes, it would be very unscientific to say "Snus reduces cavities", but I can say that since using snus, I have not had any cavities.
