Does anybody know if there is a chemical difference between the nicotine that occurs naturally in tobacco and NRT? (eg 4mg gum/lozenges) Apart from NRT tasting like s*it I find it makes me feel agitated and doesn't make me feel all warm, buzzy and relaxed like tobacco does or maybe one of the many other chemicals in tobacco makes me feel this way or changes the way the nicotine works in my brain? I read somewhere that tobacco smoke contains amongst many other things an MAOI that enchances the effect of nicotine but I don't know whether that's the same with smokeless tobacco? I keep trying to replace some of my snus with eg. NRT gum to give my gums a break but I feel like s*it and am not a very nice person to be around until I get my snus back. If snus wasn't an option I know I'd be back on the ciggies.

NRT is nicotine polenium (sp?) not freebase nicotine...
I read somewhere on the forum a while back that the stabilized form has somewhat different effects than the freebase so perhaps this is what you're encountering.
As for NRT... I think everyone here will probably have had the same experience, i.e. it doesn't work and you feel like you're heads gonna explode after each treatment.
Peace!

I'm not a biochemist or anything, but to me it's obviously better to take tobacco than a synthetic NRT for the same reason it's better to eat celery or bananas than it is to take a potassium supplement. I trust the natural, synergistic effects of plants and herbs far more than I do the isolated polymers concocted in pharmaceutical laboratories.
