    Weight loss and other success

I just wanted to gloat a bit. Since I started snusing somewhere around this time last year, I've lost 30 pounds. Coincidentally, that's exactly how much I was overweight, so yay! I have a big sweet tooth so it keeps me away from the candy and Little Debbies and other odds and ends that I would normally be eating throughout the day without any thought. (Big thanks to things like Discreet for when I really want a candy) Since I was so excited about seeing the weight come off, it gave me incentive to exercise more, too.

As a side note, I brought my grade average in school from a C to an A. It makes concentrating on homework so much easier.

Has anyone else experienced "healthy" side effects from snus usage?

Glad to hear your success story!

I'm too new to this 'lifestyle' to say but in addition to losing the desire for cigs I've also lost the desire for potatoe (oh yeah, Dan Quale style) chips.

I didn't even think about it until I read this post but I usually get a bag of these really yummy thick chips out of the machine once a day with my lunch and the last couple of days I really wasn't interested. Last night my wife confiscated a can of pringles from our 3yr old and when she offered me some I was like 'bleach!'.

So evidently the salt content of the portions is more than satisfying my salt intake. I'm usually big on salt with any veggies etc., now I guess I won't have to worry about it cause my mouth is pre-salted! I think by just balancing out the portion salt with the foods I eat I'll still be able to strike a healthy balance of salt intake.

i think i see a new study that should be looked into....

users of swedish snus that are overweight and obese compared to non users of swedish snus that are overweight and obese....wonder who would win that one

-harder/unappealing to eat with a snus in.

-glucose release. Nicotine gives you some control over your energy levels, without having to eat

            -flavor/oral fixation satisfied without eating.

-nicotine itself has been shown to reduce appetite, for these reasons and more.

it all adds up. excellent for you

I've gained about 20lbs in the year that I have been doing snus.
              I went from 185 to 205.

HOWEVER, I have used snus to reduce my amount of nicotine intake. I worked my way down from ExtraStrong snus to the weakest that I could find (3mg Oomphs).
Essentially, I am in a constant state of nic withdrawel (to some degree) which increases my appetite.
The strange this is, it is my appetite at night that has changed. My appetite during the day is pretty much the same but like most of you all, I am now without the afternoon chips/snack.

I gotta cut out 4th meal...
              :-)

I eat 2, sometimes 1 meal a day and lead an active lifestyle. Eating is great when you're hungry, but if not, I prefer to use drugs or take a nap.

Snus has done nothing positive or negative for my weight. When I quit smoking, I didn't gain weight or lose weight either.

On the topic of weight loss, I have lost 15 pounds in the past two months and increased muscle tone. My advice: absolutely no sweets, soda or alcohol. Just by following that rule, weight loss will occur almost magically. To accelerate the process, do cardio and strength training often.

I'm noticing that I get an appetite suppressant effect from snus, more so than with any other method of tobacco use. Glad it's there, as I could stand to lose some weight.

As far as concentrating in school.............. it is well documented that nicotine serves as a good counter to ADHD. So there is a medical basis for your experience.
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

                        Snus weight loss

Hey there. Congratulations on the massive weight loss!

I've experienced the same. I've "only" lost about 8 pounds but then I dropped my overweight a while ago with exercise. Those last 10 pounds are almost off now, too. and it's absolutely thanks to the snus (I'm a Thunder girl).

It's not a big surprise really. When I suddenly started losing my cravings for chocolate, I was surprised and researched the topic a lot. I've never been a smoker so I had no idea what was happening to my body. Once I found out that nicotine acts as an appetite suppressant, raises serotonin levels and releases glucose in your blood stream, it all made sense.
I only feel hungry when I'm really hungry. When my body actually needs energy. No more cravings at all!

So now when I have a burger or a bowl of ice cream, I can enjoy it and not even feel guilty.

On that note, my bowels work much better, too. Hooray for snus!

My weight is way too much, and it's effecting my health and quality of life. I need a rehab with my refined carb addiction, mainly flour, it's like heroin to me, and I'm being serious. It's effected my blood sugar to the diabetes range, and my mouth health, along with technically being like 90lbs overweight, yet I crave it like a crack whore. I've experimented with a wide range of illegal substances in my younger days, and alcohol, but none of it sets off the endorphins like a large deep dish supreme pizza and I'm compelled to eat it till I burst. It's been like this for years. I think people that don't have this problem don't understand, and because in society food is fun, it's not taken seriously, but if I fell over dead right now, it would be because of this. I'm working on starting another attempt to get it together, but I try and fail over and over, I need a controlled environment.

I have been on low carb for the last 4 months and have dropped a good amount of belly fat. It was very difficult because I lived off of (somewhat lowfat) whole wheat/white flour tortillas/blue corn chips/potatoes and went to the doctor with Gerd problems only to find I also have high cholesterol and borderline sugar levels. It was pretty much a last chance moment, of do this now or go on meds.

I feel so much better and cannot even remember the last time I took a tums/antacid. Possibly could of also been allergic to wheat.. I dont know? but been following this Dr. Davis heart scan blog and think he is on to something.

All this time I thought I was eating healthy but probably have done irreversible damage following the US Government eat 4-6 servings of whole grains a day thinking.

I was already working out a lot before snus. I lost 16 pounds and then hit a plateau. After snus I have lost another 22 pounds and I am putting on much more muscle. Not only that I started picking up side jobs during the day since I work at night and I really nver seem to be tired. I won't attribute all this to snus but snus is part of the combination of things that are helping me.
