do i believe that snus, being a low/no carcinogen food product is better than inhaling non-food-product cigarette smoke?

      yes

so i believe it's completely safe? no, but then again, neither is coffee, soda, high fructose corn syrup, or even water (in enough quantity)

Yeah i agree, i mean from a common sense standpoint alone, snus should be much better than breathing in smoke into your lungs full of tar. But that article is just going too far in my opinion. They are implying that switching to snus is actually safer, or better for you than just quitting smoking alone.

They made a claim that "one month" of smoking is more harmful than if you used snus for the rest of your life, and that is complete bullshit. I do not think I would ever be that retarded to believe such a claim. O

They're saying that switching is safer because smokers don't usually quit. Most smokers have tried several times to quit and have failed. The percentage of smokers unable to quit makes switching to safer alternatives an important step.

It is probably a statement of fact that snusing your whole life is safer than one month of smoking 1-2 packs a day of fire safe commercial cigarettes. The problem is that there are some individuals who can smoke prodigious amounts and "get away with it". However, it is hard to determine one's individual risk. If you can't surely quit in a reasonable amount of time then switching to snus is a very good choice.

For example, if you've been smoking for twenty plus years and are on the edge of developing COPD (and have other health problems) it is much better to switch to snus than to continue to smoke for even one month. It could keep you off oxygen for the rest of your life. Now, if it is some twenty year old who's only smoked a short time then it may be a bit over the top and there would likely be more time to allow for failed attempts. But if someone has failed to quit one or more times why wouldn't switching to snus be better? Every pack month could contribute to reduced lung function and other risk factors.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for people choosing whether (and how much) they want to smoke. But commercial cigarettes are garbage, and fire safe cigarettes have made them even worse. Switching to smokeless tobacco of any kind (or even switching to a pipe) would be a vast improvement. Snus is evidently the safest form of tobacco consumption available. The crime is that the public is not made aware of the relative risks of the products so that they can make judicious choices. It would also be prudent to tax tobacco products according to relative risk to encourage use of safer products. It makes eminent sense, that's probably why the government doesn't do it.

no no, I wasn't implying that. Just that it happens, and with any cancer, it is not pleasant. Certainly nothing to brush off.

Dude that was from a skin cancer from too much sun....not too much snuff. I really don't know about the statistics of nasal snuff usage and cancer...but I'm sure some info is available. And it shouldn't be a surprise to anybody to find a positive correlation.
