    Serious Oral Question(giggle now)

Hey guys, Just briefly, I was using Snus for a little bit a couple of months ago, I started with portions, then I thought LOS would be great.

I had some gum pain with the portions, especially the canines. When I switched to LOS, the nature of the beast grew vastly worse.

My entire mouth would hurt, the gums started to recess much faster, my teeth became sensitive to hot and cold, and anything sugary would send me into pain.

    So I stopped.

I just put in another order for portions. I'm using Camel mellow until it comes in.

My teeth are already hurting . Will this pass, or is my mouth just not built for snussing?

Anyone who has been using snus for a while(more than 2 years), if you could chime in on your oral situation( ) please do!

I never had anything like that, well very rarely I will, but not when I was new. Sometimes after blistering my mouth with hot pizza or something, snus seems to exacerbate the situation, and my mouth will hurt all over. It takes a couple days to get better.

    Btw, welcome to SnusOn :^)

Welcome and excuse me I'm probably too damn sick right now to comprehend but can tell you if you are using American "Camel"...anything, then that is half your battle with the sugary sweetness.

Beyond that, yes lös snus is going to be a bit rougher on your gums at first if they are sensitive. There are some particular portion snus that are smoother on the gums but I can't distinguish the difference enough since I currently don't have any issues with my gums since quitting copenhagen chew/dip. Some other folks will likely chime in with some of the less abrasive portion brands to try.

I meant the last time my mouth started to hurt that way, anything like lemonade, or a pop tart, or candy, would be painful.

And after stopping the LOS, my mouth returned to normal. So i see a direct correlation.

Probably have super-sensitive gums. Oh well, one more shot at this Snus thing, and if I have issues again, thats it for me.

Would this be better because of lower nicotine and smaller amount of tabacco(less salt). So overall better gum happiness?

Problem is I like Nic, not sure minis would cut it.

Maybe its back to Nicorette for me.

Stay clear of American Camel and Discreet brands for now. = too sugary.

Get some swedish snus mini-portion as suggested and move it around in your mouth if irritation starts.

There are some brands that started using a longer thinner pouch. 01, and 02, 02 being a stronger nic. Also Thunder is going to make a longer pouch version, and it's a higher nic. Maybe also try putting the snus in another area in your mouth, like more to the side.

Then again, it's possible you just have highly sensitive gums, and it may not be for you.

Try thunder frosted mini portion. Same nic as a reg portion(non sterk) and not as sweet as camel or general mint.

Make sure you switch sides of your mouth. Also, although it may cause more drip, push the snus back behind the canine tooth just a little bit. Sometimes if it is too far up, right on the canine tooth, it's kind of in the corner and can cause more discomfort.

so far so god guys. got my order in. used roda and tre ankare, without too much discomfort.

Pushed it behind my canine, and it was just sorta uncomfortable, not real pain, but like the nic uptae makes that area feel weak.

Who knows? it may flare up again, or maybe the portions will do the trick as opposed to Los

Be advised when I think back to when I took up Snus'n after a 45 day attempted quite from Copenhagen dip bit me in the ass and I had to give in to the Nicotine gods, recall bitching about numbness in my gums for the first 2 weeks. After that, no problems with the gums whatsoever (knock on wood). Now back in my Copenhagen dipping days, gum irritation, sores, ridges, and heartburn (even though I didn't swallow) was an ongoing occurrence.

You will get used to the lower nicotine content of the mini portions if you give yourself a few days. In my own opinion, the mini portions will be easier on your gums and are much easier to use if you have a job working with the public. If you really want a nic kick then try Taboca which makes a mini strong portion. I also find Oomph to be very gentle on my gums and you can get those in 3 mg or 6 mg. I would also try out different brands as the portion material can be very different from one brand to another. I really enjoy the taste of Granit white portions but always feel like I am sticking a roll of gauze in my mouth at first. Another thing you might try is to dip your portion in some coffee before you put it in your mouth. This also seems to help bring out the nicotine a bit better and coffee with tobacco tastes great!

 Never thought of putting some tabasco sauce on snus. That might work.

What kind of los were you using? I can use a los such as Skruf w/ no issues but after 1-2 pinches of General ES, my lip is tore up!! Not sure if it is the grind or ingredients in GES that affects me..but the moral of the story, try a different los and see if it's better. Sometimes I'll open a can of dry Skruf which hurts like a mofo, I solve that problem by liberally spritzing with water and let the can sit overnight in the fridge.
