    heart rate

I know this is a weird question. I suffer from anxiety, and now I got a weird symptom of getting a super fast heart rate sometimes thats scaring the lights out of me. Im a heavy cig smoker, want to switch to snus. I know quitting nicotine supposedly lowers ur heart rate etc. Do you find that using snus u are able to have a slower heart rate than when you smoked, or do you get even more nicotine, and it effects ur heart rate even more than cigarettes?

I'd say it's about the same......but there are all the benefits of not smoking (such as not dying from COPD or cancer) - which should be good for your anxiety.

talk to a doctor about your anxiety... i was also having heart palpitations, and then i worried myself even more, thinking that there was something wrong with my heart. bad cycle.

i got on some meds and i feel better much these days - and although i'm still a bit high-strung, and i worry way too much about certain things, i haven't had any anxiety attacks, i think my blood pressure is lower, etc.

i also avoid caffeine, at least for the most part.

Nicotine is a stimulant... thus it will increase heart rate and blood pressure fairly quickly.. You probably dont want to hear this but, since your very sensitive to stimulants perhaps you should quit nicotine all together this way your body never gets the oppurtunity to react to external stimulants.

Lay off the caffeine too if your a coffee/latte or energy drink junkie.

not quite sure i am, I mean i smoke heavy and my blood pressure does not go up. Its usually very consistent when i smoke, about 117\70. I guess my main concern is if snus would be worse in that respect. As far as heart rate /blood pressure etc.

I think your blood pressure and heart rate would behave pretty much the same way as they do with smoking.

After all - it's just ingestion of the same drug. The effect of the nicotine will be the same - although probably with a slower ramp up and down than smoking.

The benefit of course is not ingesting the chemicals created from burning the tobacco.

Though I don't mean to tell you what you should or shouldn't do, quitting would probably make it easier to regulate your anxiety as the nicotine hit does tend to increase the heart rate and can sometimes have an influence on the mind as well.

I have a hard time in the morning after chugging a giant cup of coffee. By the time that's gone I've usually already had a fat dip in the shower, a cigarette on the ride to work, and one or two sterks at my desk.

Then I get all jacked and can't even look at snus until the coffee wears off.

Recently my wife made me go see a shrink. (family history, stressful job) and he put me on Concerta. now I'm afraid to drink coffee. I snus non-stop, and forget to eat.

Same doc gave me xanax for GAD, since I made a comment about dwelling on silly unrealistic worries that can preoccupy nearly an hour of my day when my day peaks with random idiots who are incapable of making decisions bringing their problems to me while I'm in the middle of five other things.

I do acknowledge now that too much nicotine severely aggravates my ADHD and anxiety. Before I started on the concerta the snus would handle my bouts of unexplained distraction and help me focus. Now a snus makes my chest feel like it might explode.

I personally don't get the same sudden rise from snus like from a cigarette, but a snus, or several snus accumulates in my system and has much longer lasting effects on my pressure.

Paladinx, are you the same Paladinx who keeps asking the same type of questions for at least 3 years on several forums that are devoted to cigarette alternatives - all the time with an undertone that cigarettes aren't as bad as people make them appear to be?

I tell you, stay off the cigarettes for one year and you'll know how much you maltreated your body with smoking.

And if you really like the cigarettes so much then just keep smoking. Even in the worst case you wouldn't be the first one who gets a leg amputated or a lung removed. And in the best case you wouldn't be the only one who spends his life as a dyspnoeic stinker, always looking for a place where smoking is still allowed. But yeah, your heart rate and blood pressure may be slightly better .

                  Cheers!

                        Increased Heart Rate

I have been giving snus to many of my coworkers and one of them has had some reaction to the snus and making her heart rate go up and she said she is sweating more. I told her that it is related to the nicotine and it increases heart rate.

She now has been using snus for a while now and her body has adjusted. She is much happier than when she was a smoker. So personally I have not had a bad reaction due to this but I know others how have. Its each persons body and how they react will be different.

I never said cigarettes are safe, I said some of the claims in the anti smoking world we live in are exaggerated, when they do not need to be. Smoking kills you and hurts your body. Period. But they are long term killers. That is my only point. That it takes awhile to do real damage with them.

My question was not to piss anyone off. I smoked for about 10 years heavy and never had any problems with blood pressure etc. I was just wondering if peoples hearts, blood pressure, heart rate etc is more sensitive to snus consumption than cigarettes.

                            regards

Doctors prescribe nicotine gum to heart patients which is pretty much the same thing as Snus. If they are not worried I would not be either. The smoke is what dries out your system a wreaks havoc on your lungs and heart system. That's what is causing your anxiety. Look up symptoms of dehydration and anxiety. They are quite similar.
