Lemme see if I got everything right here

I was wondering, I am an athlete that works out ten times a week, so I believe that my blood pressure will be unaffected. Does that mean that the only consequenses I get is the following:

    1. My upper-lip will get "removed" (I almost have no upper-lip, so its fine)
    2. My teeth will get ***** after a lot of use
    3. My "teethmeat" (is that correct? lol, you probably know what I mean) will get tore down.

I've already been going for a couple of weeks, and I can feel that my "teethmeat" is a bit irritated, but that's it.

I don't think any of that would happen. You might get some gum recession in time, but that happens to smokers, diabetics, and with age naturally, and I don't think it's the "tobacco", but just a foreign object on the gums that causes that.

Good chance is you working out ten times a week is going to hurt your body more than snus. But your "teethmeat" Will be affected after prolonged use, will get torn and recess, exposing additional tooth that may or may not be sensitive. In my case it was sensitive... very sensitive as a matter of fact, but after 2-3 weeks of non snus usage it for the most part healed up. Usage and users vary. Will kill someones mouth ten times over while the other right next to him will be perfectly fine.

I don't get the upper lip removal part.

As with all tobacco use your teeth will stain, and depending on how yo take care of your teeth it might be severe. But I don't think they'll get "Fudged up".

        EDIT: Teethmeat = Gums.

        EDIT2: Oops!

thats twice in this thread that the F bomb has been used. The mods get complaints. Ice has asked us not to use such words. Can you plese go back and edit your posts. Maybe type F**k instead.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Geez, who complains about the effing 'f' word? I don't effing understand it.

Is that an okay way to Bowdlerize myself? Please just correct me if I'm being bad; don't pull my lip off with your dreadful snus wrench or anything.

                  Welcome to SnusOn :^)

The only thing I could foresee a problem with is #3. Some people don't get gum(teethmeat :^D) recession, but many do. I've gotten a little bit, but it isn't bad at this point.

Just about everybody gets recession as they age, but you don't want it if you can help it. When your gums recede, it leaves unenameled portions of your teeth exposed, and you're more susceptible to cavities. I consider that an acceptable risk, as a bad mouth is better than bad lungs. If you aren't using tobacco right now, there isn't as compelling a reason for snus use. You'll have to use your own judgment.

For whatever it is worth, I have been using <portions> for 3 years now and have had NO issues. My gums are the same as the first day I started.

                      my .02$

I don't see much reason for concern. I've been an American snuff user, off an on, for over twenty years. Yes, I've experienced some gum recession. But this was mainly due to using a hard bristled tooth brush when I was a youth and also having dental braces. That's what my dentist tells me. It makes sense because the affected areas are not places I used snuff and I've not experienced any worsening since I've been aware of the problem.

I think US snuff is more likely to be a problem because of the tendency to use very large wads of tobacco. I've noticed this with my own use, larger wads will tend to irritate more and if the gums get irritated enough, be it from a wad of chew or a tooth brush, they will recede. I (and my dentist) REALLY recommend Sonic type tooth brushes. Wish I had one when I was younger.

The more pressing concern to me would seem to be the risk of oral cancer. As swedish snus contains about 1% of the carcinonogens contained in US snuff (others have commented that grilling meat actually produces more carcinogens than Sweidsh snus) I think we're ok.

I just thought I'd throw that out there because I've been concerned before. I've seen the pictures (probably that same guy) and wanted to quit. I've done it before but it wasn't easy. Now, after speaking to my dentist and an ear nose and throat specialist and reading some of the information available on the Internet, I'm no longer concerned, especially since I've switched to Swedish snus.

Floss and brush regularly and you'll likely be fine... gums recede more from poor oral hygiene than snus. Even if you don't floss regularly brush well and floss as frequently as you remember.
