When I check my bp at the store, a flashing red light goes off and siren wails, and the readout says, "Rush to Hospital".

Remember BP is ALSO very much in inheritance.
Ever since i was a young man my BP has been to the limit (around 140/90)
I know that cause i was a sailor and needed health certificate.
I have never been fat or in really poor condition and i always ate OK.

Also remember that the BP is very lower in the morning than in the afternoon/evening. My BP in the morning is round 125/85 in the evening it is 140/95.

Also my doctor told me that the number to be worried about is the last part of the BP eg the 95 of 140/95 (cant remember whats it called) if that is above 120 you have a problem, whilst the first number can be well over 160 without cause of alarm.

over 160 for a few minutes is ok when you are stressed or after exercise but for your BP to be in that range all or most of the time is very bad. Go to the doctor.

Mine runs border-line hypertension. 147/97 almost every time I take it.

Doc told me weight loss would help that as well as my cholesterol. That is why she put me on the weight loss meds. I am very over-weight. I thought the snus in the mouth would keep me from eating but now I find foods that I like to eat while I snus. I am just a fat ass, LOL.

Christy if your BP is that high all the time and your doctor didn't give you meds then you need another doctor. period.

Again, if your blood pressure is consistantly over say 135/85 then see a doctor. Don't wait to lose weight etc. Do it now. BP meds are cheap. When it gets down to a more normal number then do what you want.

Jesus, I'm die'n here because I didn't keep an eye on mine and now my heart is pumping at only 50% capacity with no cure or remedy. Permanant damage. I'm just trying to spread the word. Its the silent killer ppl.

Christi, Blood Pressure numbers of 147/97 is Stage 2 Hypertension, NOT ' Borderline-Hypertension '... Keep in mind, there is NO Stage 3...

You should certainly be on medication for those incredibly high numbers..or at least drastically modifying your lifestyle (Diet, Excercise etc..)

This chart is accurate however recent research has convinced doctors that a lower blood pressure is healthier. So your goal should be for Normal Low Blood Pressure numbers. Actually 100/70 would be perfect.

                    High Blood Pressure Range

Systolic pressure (mm Hg) Diastolic pressure (mm Hg) Stages of High Blood Pressure
                    210 120 Stage 4
                    180 110 Stage 3
                    160 100 Stage 2
                    140 90 Stage 1

                    Normal Blood Pressure Range

Systolic pressure (mm Hg) Diastolic pressure (mm Hg) Pressure Range
130 85 High Normal Blood Pressure
                    120 80 Normal Blood Pressure
110 75 Low Normal Blood Pressure [currently what it should be]

                    Low Blood Pressure Range

Systolic pressure (mm Hg) Diastolic pressure (mm Hg) Pressure Range
90 60 Borderline Low blood Pressure
60 40 Too Low Blood Pressure
50 33 Dangerously Low Blood Pressure

I think this may make it easier to understand... keep in mind that most published numbers [including these] are alittle higher that what current research states that is healthiest.

                    more info....
With blood pressure readings, only one of the numbers has to be higher or lower than it should be to count as either high blood pressure or low blood pressure:

90 over 60 (90/60) or less: You may have low blood pressure.

More than 90 over 60 (90/60) and less than 120 over 80 (120/80): Your blood pressure reading is ideal and healthy.

More than 120 over 80 and less than 140 over 90 (120/80-140/90): Your blood pressure is alittle higher than it should be, and you should try to lower it.

140 over 90 (140/90) or higher (over a number of weeks): You may have high blood pressure (hypertension).
                    So:

if your top number is 140 or more - then you may have high blood pressure, regardless of what your bottom number is.
if your bottom number is 90 or more - then you may have high blood pressure, regardless what your top number is.
if your top number is 90 or less - then you may have low blood pressure, regardless of what your bottom number is.
if your bottom number is 60 or less - then you may have low blood pressure, regardless of what your top number is.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

She told me that the extra weight and the weight loss meds would put my BP up. I guess I wasn't clear. Before taking the weight loss meds it was 130's/85-90 depending on time of day, if I had just had coffee, or taken cold medication (ie psudophedrine)

NOW, daily, on my weight loss meds it is 147/97 steadily. My Dr told me the Adipex would raise my BP slightly since it works similarly to ephedrine or an amphetamine. I love her, I don't think she is stupid since she put my hubby who is 40 and has smoked for 20 years on BP meds immediately.

I didn't think that the snus could have an added effect on that number, until now. So w/o the snus it is probably even lower. I will not take my Adipex today and check my BP after nap time just to see. I am sure weight plays a large part in my BP since I have never smoked or had a history of Hypertension. Unless you count PIH. My baby doctor did tell me that it could lead to hypertension later in life, but I didn't think she meant 2 years later, haha.

My last baby and I had a hard time. They put us in the local paper, if you have time you can go read it : http://www.terrelltribune.com/articl...features01.txt

Thanks for all the concern it makes me feel like y'all love me

I'm not even gonna say what my numbers are.
I just get so irritated and stressed over it. It's such a hassle taking meds, and getting the meds is just as bad. I hate the process of getting them, and last time I went, they didn't have me down for one of them. I hate seeing a doctor too.
I do have a dietary plan I want to do next year, just hope I make it till then, I think I will.
I have noticed my BP goes to normal if I cut out the carbs, but my carb addiction is terrible and I need an intervention and an inpatient rehab for it. I have issues with my parents about this, but don't wanna go into that, because if someone is not in my shoes they would not understand.
But I think my new years plan should have a positive effect.

Well, I can see how it could raise BP, PP, since it is full of nicotine. I am not sure what it actually does to mine.

I have been dieting and doing moderate exercise for 4 months.

My cholesterol was more of a concern to my Dr. than my BP, I guess because I am so young?? At any rate I have a monitor here at the house so I can keep an eye on it any time. And if I wasn't scared to take my husbands meds I might just cuz you are freaking me out with the 'silent killer' thing. He hasn't taken them in a couple of weeks cuz it makes him sleepy...I have fussed, he doesn't listen (men).

Anyway, I will take it later this afternoon when I know I can rest for a solid 5 min w/o kids interrupting me. I will keep you posted as to what it reads.

DO NOT TAKE SOMEONES ELSES BP MEDS. There are several kinds that do several things. If you want to take an all round med to help temporarily lower your BP then take a valium. See a doctor damit.

taking snus can relax you. Although originally I really thought it would raise my BP it actually lowers mine.
