Destroying snus breath

I figured I would share my recent discovery for anyone else who feels they are suffering from "snus breath" in the middle of the day. I don't know if it is the salt content drying out my mouth, or what, but my breath usually takes a turn for the worst by about mid-day.

CloSys mouth wash is amazing. It is a special mouthwash that is made with "chlorine dioxide" and it is amazing at giving your mouth a nice, clean feeling and eliminating bad breath. I am now carrying it around in my car to use mid-day. You can get it at most pharmacies, at least in the US.

Thanks for the tip!! I am definitely going to give that mouthwash a try. I have been dealing with my snus & coffee breath by brushing several times a day but that's not always possible. The other mouthwash I was using occasionally, Listerine, made me want to punch a wall while swishing because it burnt so much!

Actually, you can "train" some dogs to be OK with toothbrushing. First try getting the poultry-flavored dog toothpaste. Most dogs like it. Also pick up the finger toothbrushes. They look kind of like rubber fingertip gloves, but they have a bumpy and ridged surface at the end of each finger (just ask for them at a well-stocked pet store or your vet). First just put some on your fingers (with the finger brushes on) and let them lick off small amounts. Act like it is a treat. Then, just keep taking it a bit further by gradually adding in tooth rubbing each time they get some of it. Eventually, you can work it up to where you are brushing their teeth, and they still feel like it is a treat. You can even try to change it over to mint-flavored dog toothpaste after a while, since it smells better. We did this with my dog, and he loves having his teeth brushed now. We even use a small human toothbrush now and he loves it. Just make sure you only use canine toothpaste, since it is made so that they can swallow it.

Also make sure you are only using dry dog food. Canned is a killer for their teeth and their health in general. It contains tons of sugars that break down their teeth quickly and promote bad breath.

Yeah, Listerine is just a cover-up for bad breath, and wears off pretty quickly. If you don't like the burning either, CloSys does not burn at all. It just kind of tastes like having pool water in your mouth lol. If you buy the larger bottle of it, it comes with a separate bottle of peppermint oil you can add to the CloSys bottle for flavoring. Pretty neat that you can choose to add the flavoring yourself, or not.

Whoa, I tried using Hydrogen Peroxide as mouthwash exactly once, but I couldn't deal with the awful taste and bubbling of it. It will definitely kill everything (including the good bacteria), but yuck lol

Walmart = no Closys! I didn't think they would have it but I was there so I decided to look. Next stop, Walgreens, then CVS the drugstore.com. I am determined to get that stuff, especially now that you added the info. about flavoring it!

In regards to canines, my dog's nasty breath improved greatly after changing his diet to Science Diet dry for bfast & lunch and for dinner he gets salmon & veggies. Only thing I can think of is that he is now consuming fewer starches. It probably wouldn't be a problem if he would let me brush his teeth but he loves doggy toothpaste so much that it is impossible to brush in between licks! Arrgghh!!!

I have no advice for the snus breath as I use a lot of minty snus and don't really have that issue. However, for the dog breath, the cleaning method above is excellent. If you cannot clean your dog's teeth for whatever reason, a vet or groomer will usually do it for a low cost.

There is a chance your dog has a bad tooth. It happens, especially if the dog has been eating lower-end food with a lot of corn products in it. Canned food is generally fine as long as it is of a decent brand. If you would like some info on dog food brands I have an excellent link for it.
For between brushes, I give my slobbery border collie Yip-yap mints. I have no idea what they taste like or the nutritional value, but he loves them and they work like a charm!

I use hydrogen peroxide. Its dirt cheap, get rid of bad breath, and doesn't leave any lingering flavors in your mouth. Traditional mouth wash is just too strong (flavor wise). It takes forever to get the minty aftertaste out of my mouth. Mixing traditional flavored snus (General, Grov, Granit, etc...) doesn't go well with minty mouth wash.
