    Tips for my son

My son is a smoker and I would love to help him kick the habit so any helpful advice would be appreciated. I told him about the biggest majority of you are former smokers and he is willing to try snus.

Besides just the fact of the bad things from smoking, there is another reason that he is considering trying snus. I can't remember if I mentioned it but he got back from Iraq in April without a scratch but tore his ACL up "rassling" in a small wrestling show in our hometown. He had his surgery yesterday and is in a great deal of pain. He doesn't smoke in the house and due to the fact that he weighs 200 lbs, his mom can't provide any support if he started to fall. I am not sure but I am going to try to see if my company can give me a laptop to work from home for a while so thought if he could use snus it would help if I have to go to work.

What would be a good brand for him to try that eases the transition to snus from cigs? Since I am a noob to snus and being a dipper not a smoker, I wasn't sure if I could pick a good one for flavor and mildness or nic affects. Until I can place an order, I am going to let him try my Disceet samples or buy him some Camels.

Thanks in advance for your help.

First off good luck to him and I hope he gets better, and shake his hand for me

My brother got back 8 months ago from Iraq and my brother-in-law got back about a year ago.

If your son wants to quit, give him as many different samples as you can and get him to read up some here to get some snusucation!

I'd say get him one of the samplers that are offered, or a small assortment of brands you think he'd enjoy, or even let him pick. If he's trying to quit smoking, you might look at the starks too. They seem to help some stay off the cigs quite a bit.

Give the vet's hand a shake for me, too.

My recommendation would be Ettan or Skruf. Both have a mild tobacco taste and aren't too heavy on the salt. If he wants a flavored, maybe Thunder frosted.

I hope he heals up quick and send my thanks for serving!

I agree with the Thunder Frosted. I resisted the stronger snus at first because I was afraid I couldn't handle the nic hit, but I'm fine with them now and I was a heavy smoker anyways. He'd definitely appreciate something strong for when he really needs the nic! Also try the Discreet of course since those are just plain good.

How about the 0102 The Lab Series with the no drip? I haven't tried them yet and was wondering if one of the two might be a good choice with him never having used dip or snus.

The Lab snus is perfect for beginners. The flavor is very mild and the portion is in similar dimensions to Camel (USA) snus, making it extremely comfortable and discreet. I would recommend 02 to him, since it has 13mg of nicotine per pouch, which will be enough to fight off cigarette cravings.

Kind of what I was thinking too. Not to mention that I can tell my wife it is to help my son and I will only use a little part of them.

I'd just get an assortment. It's hard to say what someone will eventually like with a product like snus. I know my expectations were much different from reality when I started.

Here's a list of 10 that I think would be a good starting sampler...

                    Grov
                    Gotland Gul
                    Thunder Frosted
                    Catch Eucalyptus
                    LD Black
                    Granit
                    LD
                    Göteborgs Rapé
                    Göteborgs #2
                    Onyx

for me, nicotine content was king when I was trying to give up the ciggs - so a black on black sampler would be my suggestion.

                        Great starters:

                        Ettan White
                        Offroad Cranberry (strong or original)
                        Oden's (probably not ES yet...)
                        Thunder Frosted (maybe the mini?)
                        LD White
                        Gote Rape (#2 or original)
                        Discreet
                        General Silver (very mild)

Everyone says Thunder Frosted, but for a great pure tobacco, I say Thunder original. These are great.

I am finding Gustavus portions to be pretty awesome, if you don't mind a trip to a Swedish website.

It took my body about a week to get use to the nic delivery method. Id pop one in then light up when I was done when I first started. Granted this was usaully the US camels. I think the biggest thing is not giving up because you slip up once or decide its not working. Just tell him to keep at it and after a month I can bet he'll be notice a big difference.

Flavors and strengths like everyone said just get a bunch of different ones. I liked the mints at first more then the regular flavors. And thanks to him for his services.
